Circa 1700s. ... moreAs I was told by an appraiser for Antiques Roadshow, who was very excited about this item. He said that is European. Very fragile silk is embroidered with silk floss flowers and leaves, a purple heart with a flame coming out of the top, and a purple rose. The embroidery is trimmed with tiny faceted gold and silver metal beads. Some of the embroidery threads are fine, delicate gold. Four small sections of handmade lace flowers are sewn on near the top. There are sections of gorgeous tapestry-like gold ribbon attached to it. The top, embroidered piece was then hand stitched to sections of sturdier linen fabric, and edged with gold openwork metal wire trim. You can see the tiny hem stitches in purple, and then in red, silk thread. The shape is a half circle, measuring approx. 10 inches long by 17 inches wide. The silk fabric shows the age, with some fraying. The green embroidery thread has bled around the leaves, forming an outline to them. Stunning satin ciborium veil worked in ivory satin with a gold satin lining. The central panel has a cross made from mother-of-pearl petal beads. Tiny antique pearls and tiny gold tube beads. Two of the panels have only the antique pearl beads and the fourth is not decorated. Antique Ciborium Veil Ivory Faille Lace and Pearls
Exquisite antique ciborium veil where ivory faille is used with a soft blue faille lining. The color associated with Mary. Each panel is different in design, incorporating the same cut work to reveal the blue lining. All four panels have pearls with silk threads which have been delicately couched and swirl around each. A very fine lace netting has been used and each appears to be very delicate and elaborate feather motifs. The two larger panels have more of an open netting which reveals more of the blue lining. There are 3 light stains on one panel. The panels measure 9” Beautiful workmanship, likely the work of a very devout nun to have labored over such intricacy of design and execution.
