1830 ANTIQUE 19TH BEADED SAMPLER SACRED HEART JESUS ROSES GILT FRAME IHS SILK?
I know I took an odd assortment of photos. But please take a look at them. What I was trying to capture is gold sparkles which I can see in certain light, and angles which just has a Heavenly sparkle. I think this was embroidered either using a gold thread or it is embroidered on gold fabric. The light also reflects off the beads which add to its luminosity and sparkle. This is truly a rare and beautiful piece of art. It is obviously French in origin because fait par is French for made by. It has the Sacred Heart of Jesus surmounted by the cross and surrounded by roses. It is marked 1830. The beads are so teeny tiny. I must say that I am a lover of antique beads. The antique glass is most beautiful. This was a wonderful dedication of love, a religious work for the glory and honor of God. The frame measures 10.75 inches square. The frame itself ... moreis a weighty thing and the gold has such a soft buttery looking patina, more bright gold in some places and darker in others. I believe the back is covered in silk. It is so tightly closed that I am afraid to open it and take out the actual cloth. I wish you could see it when it is not in so much light because that is when one can really see all these little gold specks shining throughout it. Just amazing! Please see my other items. Stunning vestment- purchased in Europe from a Normandy church near Mont St Michele that was selling early church vestments. In fine shape for a priest to use or on a wall/ table. Front heavy woven brocade is a strong silky fabric and has fleur de lis within four pointed cross-shaped flowers. Fabric intact. Front faded to lighter blues, back stronger turquoise. Green is heavy woven taffeta& in lovely shape throughout with a few spots of dirt which should come out easily(I did not attempt to remove) I estimate the vestment to be made between 1900-1920. Gold- thread trim is from 19th c. and truly beautiful. There are two types. ANTIQUE 19th Century Fiddleback Chasuble Vestment matching Chalice Pall & Stole
Late 19th century hand sewn Fiddleback Chasuble(from Casula. Meaning little tent) with matching Chalice Pall and Stole. The items are all handsewn, top surface is crushed velvet(purple) and the reverse is silk. The orphery is a gold colored brocade with metalic thread interwoven, hand stitched. All three pieces, the Chasuble, Chalice Pall and Stole have similiar material, stitching and broccade except the Stole has metallic spring-like fringes. Dimensions: The Chasuble is overall length approximately 75" x 25-1/4" wide. The Chalice Pall is 25-1/4" x 25-1/4" The Stole is 35" long x 7-1/4" wide narrowing to 3-1/2" Damage: Chasuble: Isolated seam separation.Mall, moth damage holes on inside silk lining, some loss due to wear on velvet napp. Chalice Pall, drop of wax on velvet napp. Stole has minor wear to napp.

Antique French Altar Frontal Banner, Pelican Applique, 19th century France
Amazing rare antique French altar frontal banner featuring the rare pelican feeding it's young. The bead work and gilt trim is stunning on this century old piece. Embroidered with crosses throughout the banner with gold metallic fringe dripping from the scalloped edge. Made of heavy ivory brocade with ivory silk backing. The center features the piece de resistance, the large ornate beaded applique in the center of the banner, featuring the Christian Pelican symbol. The mother pelican symbolizes that in a time of famine a mother pelican would draw blood from her own chest and give the blood to her chicks. Thus the pelican symbol in Christianity, also called pelican-in-her-piety, symbolizes the sacrifice of Christ on the cross(because he gave his blood for others) as well as the Eucharist(because it represents Christ's blood and provides ... morespiritual nourishment) The frontal measures 46.5" long x 20" wide. The applique in the center measures 13" x 13" These 19th c. French altar frontals with the heavy ornate beading and appliques are difficult to come by and were used for high mass in the churches. We were lucky enough to acquire four from a recent estate sale of a New Orleans collector of French religious antiquities. It's in wonderful condition for it's age. This chausible has been carefully mounted between two pieces of glass in a handsome frame. Chausuble dimensions are 38" by 25" The handsome gold frame measures 48 1/2" by 35 1/2" Overall condition is very good as evidenced from the closeups. The gold thread border is particularly stunning.
