Quite naturalistic and in autumnal colours this is a good quality tile. Tough and heavier than usual buff clay body which has moulded well and with good glossy glazes. Condition is good. Chip bottom left corner, wear/chip top edge and a few very tiny minute rim chips. Surface is near perfect. Delivery Charges All delivery charges include careful packing and insurance. The very subtle and sublime design is of a botanical/floral nature. The tile has been placed in a newly custom built quarter sawn white oak frame which has been given an old fashioned shellac with wax finish. I cannot be sure of the age. the back of the tile looks very fresh but this is not necessarily a reason to dismiss the fact that it was made during the American Arts and Crafts period(1890-1915) Also sometimes know as the Mission or Stickley era. Vintage De Porceleyne Fles Delft, Cloisonne' Windmill Tile-Arts & Crafts Style
Using the term"mint" is risky. HOWEVER,I'll say pristine is an understatement, with absolutely no flaws to the face or edges(a smudge on the clay underneath) From what I gathered, this cloisonne' Delft tile was made in the 20's to 30's(any knowledge from an expert would be welcome) by the De Porceleyne Fles Delft Pottery, and it is stamped on the back with an early mark and it has holes through the back and top for hanging. It appears to be hand painted and weighs almost one pound. It is a square with a side of 4.25" It is missing some paint and you can see the artist pencil sketch under the colored pattern. It very whimsical and care free with more of an Art&Crafts look about it. It does have an indentation on one edge of the back side and this is definitely in the make. I see no chips. Antique c1900 Arts & Crafts Carved Art Pottery Architectural Tile-Grueby Quality
Up for bids is this Antique c.1900 Arts& Crafts Carved Art Pottery Architectural Tile. I acquired this tile from a man who told me that this came off of a building in New Jersey that was getting torn down. The building was built right around the turn of the century in America. The tile is done in a 3 tone matte glaze of different shades of green that are very similar to sea foam green. The tile depicts 2 ancient Egyptian men which are shirtless and wearing traditional wrap around skirts. The Egyptians are using modern surveying tools which is interesting because they are the ones who invented the primitive versions of the tools they are using. The tile looks to be completely hand carved and incised instead of being molded with the decoration. The only marks on the piece is a number code from production on the side which is done in black ... moreink. The tile is backed with a blank tile to help support the weight of the tile. The overall weight of the tile is 22 pounds. I have not been able to identify the maker of this piece but I believe that it could possibly be Grueby because of the way that it was made and it reminds me of the scarabs that they made but at the same time there are features that remind me of Rookwood Faience tiles. This piece most likely would have been custom made for the building that it went in so this could possibly be the only one ever made. Any information would be greatly appreciated. This is a pretty large tile measuring 12 1/2" in length. 12 1/2" in height, and is 2 1/16" in depth. This piece is in great condition with just a 1 1/2" chip to the top edge and a few very minor and shallow ones to the bottom corners which are very hard to notice. Antique Pre-Arts&Crafts Spanish Revival TILE w/BRASS FRAME~T&R Boote~ 7" x 7"
Thomas and Richard Boote were the inventors and patentees of the earliest-first multi-colored tile ever produced. Founded 1842- Central Pottery Burslem Stadffs. 1850 bought Waterloo Potteries. Burslem Staffordshire area. Stopped producing multi colored tiles and concentrated on ordinary white earthenware for the U. S. market. In 1843 they patented a new process of inlaying and ornamenting flooring tiles in different colors. Patent was renewed in 1857 with improvements. Prize medals obtained in 1851 and 1862. Tile measures almost 7 inches square. Does have crazing and a hairline crack. It is cased within a brass/bronze frame. Framing appears to be original to tile and period. However, a small white line near one of the blades of the windmill. It is probably a factory flaw. It does not reveal unfinished clay. Antique Villeroy Boch lion tile scene Arts Crafts 1910 4 tiles
This is a 4 tile scene with two lions with wings facing one another. The tiles are each 5 15/16 square. The four tile section is 23 ¾ inches long and 5 15/16 inches wide. The pieces are marked on the back Boch Fres. The best we can tell. This was a mark that was used by Villeroy& Boch for their Belgium factory from 1910 to 1915. The tiles are in very good condition. There is a small chip at the top of one of them and some scratches, otherwise no damage.

Thick Antique Minton Encaustic Floor Tile Decorative Arts & Crafts salvage
The Minton company did the tile flooring in the US Capital building. Due to its thickness I believe this to be a flooring tile. Its just shy of 1" thick. The tile was salvaged from somewhere. It has tiny bits of mortar on it still and tiny chips including the corners. I showed one of the chips in the photos. I wish I knew where it came from. But hey this gives you a great opportunity to make up any story you want about its origin. The Minton company has been around since about 1798 and got started with encaustic floor tiles around 1845. The tile is 6" square, and weighs almost 3 lbs. The 3 colors must have been fired seperately because the surface colors have texture. Someone put little rubber pads on the corner so it could be used on a table as a decoration or a trivet.
