I received there Mama-San and Papa-San dolls in the early 1970s when we lived on Guam. They are petite little dolls. Made of wired clot h; their faces are a pa pier-mach e type consistency. And their features are hand-painted. Mama's costume is s atin. And her purse is crocheted. She is wearing"pearl" earrings. Papa is also wearing a satin costume. They are both on unmarked wooden bases. These dolls are in g ood vintage condition. only issues I could find are nicks to the wooden bases; Papa's right hand is frayed; Mama has a spot on her back and her shoes are a little frayed. Both have a few strands of hair out of place. They have traveled many miles with me an d are over 40 years old. still very pretty and colorful! Antique Japanese Miniature Dolls, Samurai or Emperor & Empress- Signed
These items for auction are Two Antique Japanese Miniature Dolls. Either Samurai Warriors or the Empress and Emperor. Each item measures 5 and 5/16" inches long, 4 and 1/16" inches wide and are approx. 4 and 1/16" inches tall. They are decorated with silk cloth and silk embroidery. One has a Hat, with Tassel tie. Each Doll sits on a woven reed mat over wood. The one, with the hat, has a Japanese script stamp mark, on the bottom, in black and red, which is pictured twice. The silk on these items shows wear and the decoration around the wood bases is missing in places. One has a Samurai sword, the other a bone or ivory, short sword. Nice early ones.

This listing is for a circa 1940's Gofun Japanese dolls. This mother has her baby boy tied to her back and he is peeking around her shoulder. The hair on the dolls is in very good condition. The garment is hand sewn and in excellent condition except for slight fading which is not apparent unless you look at the underside of the fabric. The dolls are in great condition except for a surface crack around the mother's thumb. See the last picture. This piece is 7 3/4" in height including the base onto which it is mounted. The silk outfit is hand sewn and not quite as fresh as when new. The sleeves are open in the back and are stuffed with the original cotton. The hair is a little mussed in the back. VINTAGE HOPI KACHINA DOLL DOLLS JIMMY KEWANWYTEWA 4
Up for auction are FOUR lovely and very rare Kachina dolls. These dolls were carved by world renowned Kachina Hopi carver Jimmy Kewanwytewa. Jimmy Kewanwytewa's work is highly sought after by collectors and not many have been seen around in recent years. Contemporary carvers including J.K's ancestors have maintained his simplistic style of carving Kachina dolls. Jimmy. K became well known while working with historians at the museum of Northern Arizona Flagstaff during the 1940's to 1965. While working at the museum he documented the existence and significance of kachinas. He was featured in a 1949 book by Prof.Colton where he demonstrated"how to carve a Kachina" Kachinas are carved from cotton wood which is considered to be quite soft and light weight. The surface is usually refined and smooth except when texture is ... morenecessary. Each doll is usually meticulously hand painted using natural colored dyes. Many are also decorated with feathers and other remnants from nature. Dolls were traditionally given to girls by male family members at bean planting and home dance ceremonies during the summer. The most important use of the Kachina is to teach children aspects of Hopi religion. Beliefs that is rooted in the forces of nature. The four kachina pictured below have been in my posession for at least 5 years. They have areas where the paint have faded but not to a great degree. Two Kachinas are signed J.K. The other two are unigned. But echo identical style. All but one have broken and repaired parts. One has a portion of the foot that is missing. Colors on all Kachinas are vibrant. The feathers have stood the test of time. Each kachina represents a seperate element of nature that I am not versed on. Head and face are made of a more supple rubbery material and the limbs and bodies are made of a more hard plastic material. Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls & Lacquered Box
On offer are two nesting dolls. The"brown" set consists of 6 pieces measuring from 3.5" to 1" high. The black and green dolls measure from 3" to 1" and has 5 pieces. I purchased these during an assignment to Moscow in 1993. They have been in storage since that time and in excellent condition. Up for auction is a possible vintage display item that I believe to have been made in Guatemala. It is a wall plaque/hanging that measures approximately 10” x 2 ¾” x ½” that is made mostly of wood. It has different compartments/sections that are lined with brightly colored fabric. In each section a different set of objects has been glued on including: small straw baskets. Wood kitchen utensils, painted wood pieces of fruit. Painted wood or ceramic crockery, braided fabric, coffee? beans, and 2 worry dolls. There is a metal ring attached to the top for easy hanging. VERY CUTE SET OF WOODEN KOKESHI NODDER DOLLS! Kokeshi Dolls originated from Tohoku Northern Japan. Known for their onsen or hotsprings. Kijiya or woodworksman who carved bowls and trays began using their skills to carved wooden dolls as souvenirs for visitors who came to the onsen. Likely to have a spiritual meaning, when given as a gift to a couple, to have a healthy child. Kokeshi dolls have been made for many years, from the 19th century to today. Craftsmen today use aged wood from red cherry or mizuki tree, cut and form the body and head separately then joined together using a wooden plug- creating a bobble-like motion to the head. I can't read Japanese, but I think the artist's signature may be painted on the front of the dolls. The condition is good. There is normal wear. Vintage ORIENTAL WOOD DOLLS set of 3
This is a set of 3 Vintage ORIENTAL WOOD DOLLS. I'm not sure if they are Kokeshi. I don't see any label on them. They are from the 1960's. I found them in an storage bin in an attic. They are made of wood. Each is a different size. The biggiest is only 1 3/4" Middle is 1 1/2" and the smallest is only 3/4" The heads on the two bigger ones are moveable. There is a screw that holds the body and head, and you can turn the heads. They are all hand painted with some markings on them.
