Antique Ceramic Salt & Pepper Shakers Handpainted Limoges Style possibly Japan?
A charming set of very old salt and pepper shakers that measure 2.5" x 2" They are still functioning. But the holes are larger than modern shakers so need to use coarse salt and pepper rather than the boxed. This pair is not pristine. It shows its age and wear. The base of one is slightly cracked and there are aging spots throughout. The corks are not original and not interchangeable as the openings are different sizes. Each shaker has a chip under the rim. I've included many untouched photos. The condition is very visible in these. I am guessing these are from the early part of the last century based on others I've seen. The porcelain is very delicate and light weight. The designs are similar to that of Pickard or Stouffer's decorating companies or Japan porcelain starting at the turn of the century. The round shakers with button tops measure 2 1/8" high and 1" in diameter at the base. The square pillar shakers measure 2" high and 1" square at the base. Vintage '40s Iridescent Lusterware Salt/Peppers, Art Deco Style, Made in Japan
This lovely pair of shakers dates to the 1930s or early'40s and are classic Art Deco shape. They measure 3" tall x 1 1/2" wide. They are porcelain with a metallic glaze that gives the appearance of iridescence. A technique that produces what is called Lusterware. The bottoms are marked Made in Japan. The color is a pale tangerine orange or gold with a light blue top. They are in perfect condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or blemishes. They have cork stoppers, and as you can see in the last photo, the shaker on the right has had paper added around the cork, no doubt for a secure fit. We didn't try to pull it out. Who knows? There may be something exciting written on that paper. I clearly remember an identical pair from my early childhood in the 1940s, which always graced my Grandmother's dining table. Antique VTG Style Open Salt Cellar Iridescent Lustre Bowl Set Lot of 6 Gold Gilt I am not certain as to what the original use for this charming little footed bowls/dishes was but they look like little salt cellars to me. Two have small chips and two have gold worn off the inside. See the photos as I did my very best to capture the beauty and the flaws of this set. Three look very similar in color and the other three look very similar(more green) in color. Perhaps two partial sets? Vintage Porcelain Salt. Pepper, Mustard(Condiments) Set Porcelain Gaudy Welsh Imari Style English condiment Set(Imari Style/Replica/Reproductions) From Japan. Open Salt. Pepper shaker and Mustard pot set, 3 pieces in all. Porcelain/Ceramic white base with silver plated tops. Shaker top screws on and other top does as well as flip open, Has a hole for a tiny spoon. Tops do show some wear and could use a cleaning. Porcelain pieces are in great condition, no damage seen. They do show some signs of normal wear, but it's a solid set. Unmarked bottoms and circle shaped to fit into a rack. Brilliant colors of red/orange, cobalt blue and white. Gold trim has light fading. Flower designs.
