Up for bid is this lovely vintage David Andersen Gilloche Yellow Enamel on 925 Sterling Silver Owl salt or pepper shaker. It's in quite good vintage condition but as with all vintage pieces there may be wear consistent with normal age and use. There may be some wear on the enamel. Please look at all photos to get a very good idea of what it looks like. It will need to be polished as the gilt sterling has tarnished some through the years. Stamped on the bottom it says D-A NORWAY STERLING 925 S. It has the plastic stopper on the bottom that's in excellent condition. It measures 2 1/4" tall X 1" at the base. Shipping is free. This is one of several antique German 800 silver figural"bird" models that I will be listing. I have collected these over the years and hate to see them"fly" This is a wonderful German 800 silver figural owl salt or pepper shaker. It is beautifully hand worked and chased with very detailed feathers and claws. There are the original glass eyes. It is fully marked 800 and along with the German crown and crescent moon hallmarks. And"Depose" The head is removeable. The orb that the owl sits upon is engraved"Dec. 1912" and"EHS" There are little holes along the head for shaking out the pepper or salt. These are English pieces, dating to circa 1960. The owls are perfectly identical in design, with only the number of holes in the lid to tell them apart. One lid has only one hole, while the other has several. One of the owls is marked Tiffany& Co while the other is marked for Richard Comyns, but these are undoubtedly a set. The owls are quite detailed, and the eyes are suitably lifelike. These are very solid and well made pieces, with a nice heft in the hand. The shakers are both in great condition. The details of the feathers are quite crisp. The lids stay on securely. There are no breaks and no repairs. ... moreOne of the owls is marked Tiffany& Co. England and sterling on the underside of its foot, and has the Tiffany& Co maker's mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, and the date letter c for 1958 on the back of the tail. The other owl has the lion passant, the leopard's head, the date letter e for 1960, and a maker's mark of RC for Richard Comyns. Owl Salt and Pepper Shaker Set- Made in Japan Make sure to check my other auctions for more beautiful glass. Pottery, and collectibles. Description This vintage salt and pepper shaker set was made in Japan. They are made of redware pottery. One is unmarked. And one has a barely-legible stamp of"Japan" on the bottom. They are in the shape of owls. With a rich warm brown glaze on the body, and yellow glaze around the eyes. The beak and feet are"cold painted" on top of the glaze) in a peach or fleshtone color, and the eyes and"ears" are accented with"cold painted" black. The salt shaker(3-hole) is slightly larger than the pepper. It measures 4.25" high. 3.25" wide, and 2" thick. The pepper shaker(2-hole) measures 4-1/8" high, 3" wide, and 1-7/8" thick. The pair weighs slightly ... moreless than 3/4 of a pound. Both are in good condition- no chips. Cracks, heavy scratches, or repairs. Each has some slight scuffs in the glaze from use and handling over the years, but the overall glaze appearance is still smooth and shiny. Unfortunately. Some of the black paint on the eyes and"ears" came off when I washed these. There are also some small spots of missing peach paint on each. There is also a stray spot of the beak/feet paint on the back of the salt shaker. You will want to take care if you would like to clean them further. If you are crafty. Antique Silverplate Owl Figural Salt Or Pepper Shaker Nice Yellow Glass Eyes
You're bidding on a nice Owl figural silverplate salt or pepper shaker- he stands about 2" tall with a diameter of roughly about 1" at the widest point. With nice piercing yellow glass eyes. He's unmarked, but very finely detailed, and the glass eyes are a sign of high quality manufacture. I have not attempted to polish him, but he evidences very minimal wear, so his plating should be in very good condition if you wish to shine him up. Note that the plug in the bottom appears to be metal and I have not taken it out as it seems to be difficult to remove- it makes me wonder if he was intended to be a working shaker or simply a display object. I'm estimating him to be roughly a turn-of-the-century circa 1900 period item, as these types of figurals were most popular during the Victorian period. Unmarked so I dont know the maker but it reminds me of Frankoma or similar companies that use the glossy glaze like that. Its really neat and might be hard to find. Approx. 2 7/8" tall and 2" wide.
