ANTIQUE VIOLIN 18th CENTURY FRENCH MASTER OLD VINTAGE W E HILL & SON LONDON
This is a truly magnificent violin. By the 18th century French maker Francois Perain(PERRIN) 1775-1800. It belonged to a Professional Musician called Walter Eager who played in the Blackpool and Scarborough Orchestras pre and post ww2. I understand from his son that he purchased this Violin from the company of W E Hill and sons of London pre WW2, It comes in the original Rosewood Hill`s case. The violin has the Hill number of 8690 on the fingerboard. The violin was made by the French violin maker Francois Perrin or Perain circa 1775-1800 Mirecourt. He gets a decent mention in William Henley`s book, Worked in Mirecourt, 1775-1800. Typical Mirecourtian modelling and workmanship. Outline rarther reminiscent of the Guarnerius. Orange varnish perhaps superior to that of several contemporaries, sometimes a brown shade rather opaque. Excellent orchestral ... morefiddles. Branded Francois Perrin. The violin has a beautiful colour to the varnish and has a rich sound. It measures 358mm and has a one piece back with ebony tuning pegs. It has a very fine grafted scroll and looks to be in excellent condition. I understand very few by this maker still exist. I had the violin set up by Peter Hall Violins of Beverley. I am also listing the original bows that he had. JAS TUBBS Silver Mounted that he bought with the violin from Hills and a silver mounted fine German Bow by EDWIN OTTO HERRMANN. OVERSEAS BIDDERS PLEASE ASK ABOUT POSTAGE COSTS WITH INSURANCE. I would prefer Bank Transfer as payment. Please note. I do not take returns on Violins.

RARE EARLY 18TH CENTURY BRASS & STEEL DIVIDERS ANTIQUE DRAWING INSTRUMENT NR
This very early pair of dividers measure 92mm(3.75' long x 12mm(5' across and weigh 22 grams. They date to the early 1700's or possibly earlier with the steel pinned pommel top and the steel tips. I have left the tips as I found them with a slight outward curve to the points which I have to say they look as though they have always had and I wonder if they were designed as a pair of callipers for measuring the inside dimensions of items such as small cannon and pistols? They are in good condition with a good patina and would suit any early scientific drawing instrument collection or possible military. Large Original 18th Century Engraving James Basire Antiquities of Athens
Large Original 18th Century Engraving of the Antiquities of Athens by James Basire of Bacchus and Tyrrhenian Pirates. The engraving appears to be from Chapter IV. The Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. They show reliefs on the Lysicrates monument illustrating the story of the Tyrrhenian pirates. Four generations of Basires were engravers. The elder James Basire(1730-1802) became known as an engraver of architecture and was employed on the first volume of James Stuart and Nicholas Revett's classic book The Antiquities of Athens(1762) He traveled in Italy the following year. And around that time became Engraver to the Society of Antiquaries. He also became Engraver to the Royal Society in 1770. This engraving would look stunning framed and measures 22" by 15.5" In very good condition considering the age. A bit dirty around and some ... moresmall tears around the edges. Nothing serious and you would never see this once mounted and framed. Postage to the UK will be free and free to all oversea bidders if they would like it sent in a tube. If not please email me for a postage price. I do have six other similar engravings which I will be listing. Please view my other interesting items. Many thanks. Karen.

3 Antique 18th and 19th Century Strong Boxes - Found in a Civil War Era Safe
These t hree strong boxes were discovered in an old civil war safe. Two are unlocked. One is locked. We do not have keys for any of the three, these would be for display purposes. The more ornate box measures 7.5" tall x 12" long x 7.25" deep. The one with copper edging measures 5.75" tall x 12.25" long x 8" deep and the black one measures 12" long x 6" tall x 8" deep. The lock on the center box was replaced some time in the 20th Century. We do not know the complete origin of the strong boxes. Just that all three are older than the safe, at least one and possibly two are 18th century. The other is early to mid 1800. 3 Coquilla Nut Figures Georgian Napoleonic 18th 19th Century Black Forest German
About 3" tall each. I got these in a lot auction(for something else I had my eye on) So I'm offering these up. This auction for the(3) Coquilla nut carved figurines(NOT the snuff box which is only shown for comparison) Quite rare and unusual. Of extremely dense Coquilla nut with amazing polish and patina, these figures are quite rare and I've listed some comparable in the last images. These are 18th or 19th Century. Not sure exactly where they were made, as most are Napoleonic era French, these appear almost Black Forest German.condition as per images. I lightly cleaned them with a brush and a little beeswax.
