Both knobs are in good condition with no dents. As far as I can tell the knobs are made of steel not brass or copper. There is some light rust or corrosion on the knobs nothing terrible but its there. The back plates are also in good condition with out dents or twists again some light rust and are 6" long and 2" wide at the widest. The latch moves freely but I don't know about the lock as I have no key. Vintage in Pkg Safety Door Guard Latch Hardware Made in USA Ideal Security
Still in the card package with shrink wrap over the Safety Door Guard Latch and screws. In the upper left corner is SK-752 Complete Home Protection and in lower left corner it says Ideal Security St. Paul MN. 55101, it also has Union Made in U.S.A. The back of the card has instructions and a drawing of how to put it on a door. It feels pretty heavy and it looks like its in real nice condition, never used. There's no bar code lines anywhere so its older than when they started having those on packaging. The card is about 7 1/2" x 6 1/4" The jamb bracket is about 4" L. and it is the longest piece in the set, all pieces are there that are supposed to and so are the 2 one way tamper proof screws. This uses a solid piece of steel instead of a chain to allow a door to open at just a crack and still be secure. The latch is solid cast iron and nothing like the pressed junkie steel ones you’ll find at a home center. These are usually referred to as utility latches because of the wide range of uses. I’ve seen these used on transom windows, cabinets, casement windows almost anyplace you’d like to use a unique looking latch. The latch and keeper will work on either right ... moreor left hand side of door or window. The latches are cast iron and the keepers are steel. The keepers are not original to the latches but are the correct type for them. The condition is very good with the latches having age darkening dings and scratches and loss of finish from age. These are still somewhat stiff to turn and are not all wobbly like many I come across. All I did to these was a quick wipe down with an oiled rag. The approximate measurements of the latch base are 1 1/2” x 1 3/8” The T-handle or grasp is 1 5/8” across. The keeper is 1 ½” wide at its widest point x 1 ½” Circ. about the middle of last century. Rotary latch lock: made of steel. Measuring approximately 2x3 inches. Made in the 60s, I think GDR, but not quite sure. Also it is Russian or Czech. There is also a metal plate as a unit, in which it enters the latch. Two grades of the lock. It is seen that a little bruised, but otherwise is healthy and works perfectly. In great condition for his age. I found the latch, looking for something in the basement. I remember that it was never installed anywhere, so there is no hand at all. 2 VINTAGE CAST IRON AP SLIDING BARN DOOR LATCH ~ GATE GARAGE SHED FARM LOCK TOOL
Offered are two identical cast iron sliding door latches. These are marked AP. I've seen identical latches marked"AP. ALLIGATOR. Perhaps they made these for applications where reptile references were unwelcome. These are a spring action latch and were used on many kinds of sliding doors and gates. Additionally they could be padlocked, and could be opened from either side of a wall with a handy pull chain. I'm not sure of the exact age of these, but they are positively old. The latches are about 7 inches long and 3-3/4 inches across in the latched position. They each weigh a bit over a pound. They are cast iron with steel springs and pins. The flat chain is copper. I can't see any signs of use or wear. But they may have been gently used. There are no cracks, breaks or bends anywhere. The springs are strong and the latch action ... moreis firm and positive. There are remnants of old black paint. I'm not sure these had much of a paint coat when new. There is minor corrosion, mainly on the backs. They are clean and perfectly operational.
