This is an antique front door knob and lock set that came from an old home north of Pittsburgh that was being updated. The decorative parts appear to be brass. Although the door and keyhole escutcheons have a copper or bronze look. The original screws with the exception of one missing flat head wood screw are included. The lock faceplate measures 1" x 7" The lock box is 5/8" x 3 3/8" x 4 7/8" The door knobs are about 2 3/8" wide at their widest. This antique mortise lock set is in the Aesthetic style. The back plates are 5.25' x 1.75' The plates are steel. The knobs are black porcelain. The only marked part is the box which is marked Skilman. The plates are bare steel with no finish. The box comes with a functional key. The lock faceplate is 7/8' x 5 1/2' The box may be opened and the catch bolt can be reversed for doors that swing the other way. The spindle also comes with the set screws, everything shown in the first photo is included. Circa 1890 or earlier, a nice antique set. If there are questions please ask them early. 3 antique/ vintage **door knob back plates** 1920's/30's- for mortise lock
I purchased a group of assorted old doorknob backplates to get the one I needed for a house I am renovating. I am now offering some of those I don't need for your consideration. This auction is for THREE(3) rectangular antique door plates, I believe from the 1920's or 30's. But I wasn't around back then so I don't know for s ure. T wo plates are plated steel- a magnet does stick to them. The third is not magnetic- appears to be plated brass. The coating is a bronze or copper color. These w ould have been used with an old. Large mortise-type lockset and skeleton key- neither is included. P late A measures 10" high x 3" wide. This is the non-magnetic. Bronze-colored one. I believe this plate would have been used on the outside of the front entry door- possib ly exposed to the weather. Plate B measures 7" high ... morex 2 1/4" wide. It is plated steel- the plating appears to be an' antique brass' color. It is similar in design to plate A. But not an exact match. The previous owner"cleaned" these two plates with steel wool, so there are scratches evident. And some finish loss. Plate C measures 7 1/4" high x 2 3/8" wide. It has not been cleaned at all. And is mostly covered with old white paint. It is also plated steel. I believe the color may also be' antique brass' But I can't tell with the paint. It is. Again, a similar design to the other two plates, but not an exact match to either. I received plates A and B as you see them- I do NOT have any knobs or screws to go with them- sorry. The 4 screws that were holding plate C to a door are includ ed, but there were no knobs on the door. This auction is for only these T HREE door back plates. Two Sets of Antique Door Knobs w Back Plates-Mortise Lock Porcelain-Wrought Iron
No Reserve and ready to sell this old box of assorted antique doorknobs and hardware that I found tucked away on top of a rafter inside of a garage that is being torn down. The bidding is for all contents inside the box which includes two sets of doorknobs. Two back plates and one copper finish cover plate that has swirls and three small flowers. The first set of knobs are black porcelain and the other set seems to be a mismatch of sorts, one knob has a scallops and a leaf motif in dark wrought iron finish which is also m agnetic. The other knob is antique brass with ribbed sides and smooth top resembling a sun or sunflower. The back plates have been cleaned; they were completely covered in thick enamel paint that had chipped off. Both have skeleton key holes. But no keys were found inside the box. The locking latch box is working and the ... morelatch that keeps the door closed does move back and forth when you turn the knobs. The dead bolt goes out and stays out until the inside mechanism raises to release without sticking. Tested without a key so no guarantees that it will work each time. This is an antique mortise lock set that works. One side has a lever and the other side has a knob. The lock was manufactured by the Norwalk Lock Company of Norwalk Connecticut. From what I can guess. The lock was likely manufactured in the late 1800s, but there is no markings to indicate the time of manufacture. Mortise size: 3"x1 3/4" x 9/16" Cover plate: 1 3/8" x 4 11/16.

There are 9 threaded and 16 set screw design rods. Included among these are 3 old long center pivoting rods one of which unscrews at the center and measures 5 inches. Antique Large Mortise Lock. Patent Date 1869 Heavy Brass Face Plate
A large high quality mortise lock made by M W and Co. Patent dates are 1869 and 1873. The lock had the usual dead bolt feature. But the knob/handle is also lockable. Two keys needed to operate, Keys Not Included. I have opened up this lock body, no rust, all springs in great shape, no tricky inner wards, so making working keys should be very easy. Old 1880's(patent date 1880) Corbin mortise lock for an entry door. There are 2 locking bolts and 2 locations for skeleton keys. No key included with it as I don't have them but this is for a specific old style of entry set. 7 3/8" by 15/16" face. 2 3/4" backset. The mortise so far as where the knob spindle goes functions great.
