Offered for auction is this Antique Architectural Piece. I was told it was a Floor Heating Grate and came out of Connecticut. It measures about 13 1/2 x 6 inches. There are 2"protruding points" on each long side. For inserting or attaching the piece. No names or markings that I can find. Has a neat design. Good Condition. No broken parts. Antique Cast Iron Arts Crafts Tudor Gothic Fireplace Coal Grate Electric Fire
This ingenious creation by the Adams Company of Dubuque Iowa dates from the middle 1910s-early 1920s and adapts a genuine cast iron fireplace coal grate. It measures 10 ½” deep with the back height 16 ½” and the front height 13 ½” It tapers toward the back so it is 22 ½” wide at the front and only13 ½” wide at the back. The assembly is well cast with Arts and Crafts detail painted black and accented in gold. They have substituted a tin bottom for the coal grille and installed a single porcelain socket and side switch with pin wheel blade suspended in the middle. The standard base socket accommodates a red bulb(missing) whose heat provides updraft that makes the pinwheel spin offering a“flickering” effect. Further fire-like atmosphere was often achieved by installing clear or colored glass marbles(such as those found ... moreat craft stores) that offered a glowing coal effect. Pretty Antique Victorian Ornate Cast Iron Floor Register Heat Grate Vent 13x10
Here is a very pretty antique cast iron register cover. It is 13 3/4 inches by 10 7/8 inches. This is just the grate without the louvers underneath. Though the lever that normally opens and closes the louvres is still there. The cast iron is not cracked or broken, though there is rust where the original finish has worn away. This old cast iron heating vent has an attractive pattern that we don't see as often as some other patterns.

This is an auction for a restored antique black cast iron louvered floor grate. This grate has been sand blasted and then repainted. All the parts are in good working shape. No rust. Louvers work smoothly. The grate is 13 3/4" long by9 1/2" wide. The part that fits into the floor is 10 1/2" long by 7 1/2" wide. It is 2" tall. Some light pitting either from original production or from sand blasting. But very minor. See the last photo. The grate even has the original pin in the wheel to open and close the louvers.
