Two Sets of Antique Door Knobs w Back Plates-Mortise Lock Porcelain-Wrought Iron
No Reserve and ready to sell this old box of assorted antique doorknobs and hardware that I found tucked away on top of a rafter inside of a garage that is being torn down. The bidding is for all contents inside the box which includes two sets of doorknobs. Two back plates and one copper finish cover plate that has swirls and three small flowers. The first set of knobs are black porcelain and the other set seems to be a mismatch of sorts, one knob has a scallops and a leaf motif in dark wrought iron finish which is also m agnetic. The other knob is antique brass with ribbed sides and smooth top resembling a sun or sunflower. The back plates have been cleaned; they were completely covered in thick enamel paint that had chipped off. Both have skeleton key holes. But no keys were found inside the box. The locking latch box is working and the ... morelatch that keeps the door closed does move back and forth when you turn the knobs. The dead bolt goes out and stays out until the inside mechanism raises to release without sticking. Tested without a key so no guarantees that it will work each time. NICE 1/2" Pig Sticker Mortise Chisel x 11" Marked
This is an early 1/2" mortise/ mortising chisel. They are commonly called pig stickers. This has an odd octagonal shaped handle. With a small like wooden washer-like piece inbetween the handle and the iron, probably from the original handle. This handle is just about void of the often found splits are cracks- has a few at the tip. The iron is tight to the handle. It has recently been honed- but will need a little more effort, I'm sure, to bring it to your liking. It is named but the only letters I can make out are"WBOU" and I am not positive about this as it is hard to make out. Maybe you will have more luck while looking at my pictures. The iron is 6" long and the total length of tool is about 11" long. It weighs 12 1/2 oz. I will be happy to combine shipping. Antique Prouty's Rigid Door Knob Thick Solid Commercial Grade Extremely Rare Marked on inside: Prouty's Rigid Door Knob Patented Dec 23. 1879, Feb 3, 1880, Oct 24, 1882 Does have some scratches. And some pitting. Very thick brass or copper, would seem to be commercial. It appears to be copper, but might be copper plated brass. I am unsure, and will not cut through it to find out. Some scratches on button and some pitting. Does not include key. This is a complete door knob with mortise. This door knob is 100% functional. And in great shape. A perfect addition to any collection. You will not find many of these if any. Copper knobs with copper button mechanism. Knob was taken apart to show details then put back together. ONLY ONE DOOR-the door on the left. With hardware removed(although it will be included) Solid wood door with original glass removed from my 1904 Victorian home. Again, this buy-it-now is for ONE door. Most of the woodwork in my house, including the floors, is pine, so I'm assuming these doors are pine. Beautiful scalloped carving surrounding the glass. One door has a significant chip on the top inside corner, shown in one photograph. Otherwise, minor nicks and scratches, overall in good shape. I believe if you stripped these, patched and finished, they will look beautiful. And the original wavy glass is gorgeous. The doors are not perfectly square, so I will give the range of measurements. I removed the lockset from one door to distinguish the two, but mortise lock, plate, knobs, and iron hinges ARE INCLUDED! All are original to the doors ... moreexcept the deadbolts. These beautiful door knob sets come from a house in New England which was built in 1890. I do not know the age of the knobs. They are in excellent working condition. I am selling them as complete sets. With all plate and strike screws, all set screws, strike plates and mortise locks. There are nine privacy sets and two passage sets in all. Corbin is on mortise box and P. F. Corbin 1888 or 1883 is stamped on the face of the lock bolt. HARVARD is stamped on the top edge of the latch face. High quality machining and function. Complete except for key and in perfect working condition. Has two large high quality cylinder locks. Latch face measures 1 5/16" x 8 5/16" Mortise box measures 4 1/16" deep. 5 7/8" tall and 15/16" thick. Uses a 1/4" spindle.
