My scale computes to the nearest gram and it has been tested and calibrated. A note to silver scrappers: There are those on Ebay who will claim that the weight of an object is less than advertised and demand a rebate after the auction has ended. This is an ongoing trend and these individuals seem to complain if silver prices go down between the day they buy and the day they receive. When one melts silver one can lose as much as 5% of the weight in the smelting process and I can not be held responsible for weight lost after melting. I do not generally melt anything that is well made as it makes little sense to me. So any potential loss should be considered before purchasing my items. All my items are measured with a standard tape measure and are rounded off to the quarter inch. I attempt to be as accurate as possible. But odd surfaces can prove difficult sometimes as I lack a pair of calipers. With over a thousand items in my store. Errors do occur, albeit infrequently. Vintage Antique Brass Mail Letter Slot with Integrated Door Knocker Art Nouveau
Up for auction is a wonderfully old antique or vintage combination mail letter slot and door knocker. I believe this is from the 1920s. The slot/knocker is likely solid brass. It weighs 1.3 pounds. As you can see from the photos it needs a serious cleaning/polishing- however, as I have no idea if the buyer would prefer to have this'history' cleaned off or not- I'm leaving it as is. The outside measurement of the slot/knocker is approximately 7.5" x 3.75" The inside slot opening is approximately 4.5" x 1& 1/8" The slot/knocker is in nice condition given its age- however. Item description Antique Branford Lock Works cast bronze mail slot c.1880. This is one of the best"Oriental" pattern hardware items I've had to offer. Branford made a wide variety of hardware items with this highly successful pattern. The piece exhibits minimal wear. A nicely aged color and nearly all of the original background enameling. Typically these mail slots use a steel spring to keep the mail flap closed, but this one is brass and in like new condition. The piece is 7 1/8" long x 1 15/16" wide. The recessed portion is 5" x 1 5/8" Including the spring mount. Condition All of my pieces have been carefully cleaned with attention given to preserving original finishes where they remain intact. Many pieces fall victim to wire brushing and high speed polishing which only results in a rough pitted surface ... moreand erosion of the sharpness and detail of the pattern. Super shiny isn't always a good thing. Occasionally I may offer pieces that have suffered this fate but it will be noted in the description. Vintage Copper Mail/ Letter Slot· Description: Mail slot with screws- aged patina and age appropriate wear. As per pictures. The piece has two posts for screws in the back- one on each side– for fastening through the door. The posts and screws are functional. All pictures are taken with the screws screwed in; they do unscrew and work properly. Material: Appears to be cast copper· Size: Approximately 7 x 2 ½” Weight 9.6 oz, 1 ½” maximum from inside screw to back of face plate, Opening 1 ¼” x 4 ½” Age: We believe this to be from the early 1900’s because we found this among my 95 year old mother’s treasures. This is a less common type of hardware. Simply because fewer were made than knobs and plates, and not many have survived demolision and scrap drives. This example measures about 8" x 2 1/2" with the screw holes measuring about 5 3/4" to centers on the long dimension and 1 3/16 on the short dimension. The mounting bracket on this mail slot is 13 ¼ inches wide and 3 7/8 th inches tall. The mail slot is 11 ½ inches wide and 2 3/8 th inches tall. It has four 3/16 th holes that are not threaded for mounting. One of the pins for the hinge on the right side looks to have been replaced with a small nail. The flat surface in the middle of the door has never been engraved. So it ready for your name! It is made of cast brass and has a well-aged patina with paint on its edges. 12.5" Heavy Duty Mail Slot - Antique Brass
Up for auction is a 12.5" Heavy Duty Mail Slot- Antique Brass. This was an estate find. It was purchased in a large collection of old brass post office doors. I do not know age, it is marked 1219-1 on back(not sure if that dates it) Measures 12.5" wide x a little over 2.5" tall. Actual slot is 1" x 11" This is either brass or bronze I believe(magnet does not stick) Weighs almost 2lbs. Does have a little paint from previous owner on sides.
