HUGE! 2"x3" Antique Victorian Porcelain Door Keyhole Key Cover Plate Escutcheon
Penn Antique Restoration. Antique Victorian Porcelain Keyhole Cover Plate. Rare. Antique, keyhole cover plate salvaged from upstate NY. It's made entirely of porcelain. We removed the plate from a big door that we salvaged. Unfortunately. The plate was broken when we acquired the door, and only the 3 screws were keeping the 2 halves together. Since then, we re-secured the 2 parts using an industrial strength epoxy. The bond is very strong. Although a scar is visible. You may be able to apply some high-gloss, off-white paint over it. There may even be a product for touching up spots of worn porcelain on old cast iron sinks and tubs that may help disguise the scar on this plate. If the quantity above falls below 10, this indicates that 1 or more plates sold. Lovely. Vintage keyhole cover plates made during the first half of the previous century. Each plate is made of solid brass, and has an oval form. Originally. All pieces were copper-plated, however, most of the plating wore off over the years, leaving only traces here and there. At the point of salvage. The plates were covered under several layers of paint(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, and cleaned and polished each one to the best of our ability. All plates have tiny nicks and light scratches. Which are common to find on old, door hardware. However, there are no ... morebreaks, cracks, gouges, or chips.
