It measures on the outside 13 3\4 inches by 10 3\4 inches and the inside where it would recessed into a floor or wall is 12 inches by 9 inches and about 2 inches deep. The metal color is black and it has some wear. But not rusted or damaged and the lever on the top surface moves the louvers inside very smoothly, to close the vent if desired or have it open. Here is a very nice antique floor heat register with original parts and paint. I don't know how old it is. We bought it about 18 years ago at an antique store and it's been stored in a closet ever since. It's in great working order and can be used for the original purpose. It could also be used for display since the underside has great advertising marks on it. The pics show it's condition very well. There are a few small areas of missing paint on the top. On the screws, and the flip switch. There is also some surface discoloration-slight surface rust, mostly on the inner flip panel area. It's marked on the underside with: S.M. F. Co. S. MILWAUKEE WIS. on each bottom panel. It's also marked 4 x 8 in four places. It measures 4" x 8" on the bottom(the part that fits into the floor or wall) The top measures about ... more5 1/4" x 9 1/4" It's pretty clean, as I removed the dust and grime with a lightly oiled cloth. Outer rim is one piece with no vent adjustment Middle rim is two pieces so it can be turned to open or shut for air flow. The middle is also two piece with open-shut vent. This is the part that would be removed if a stove pipe had to run thru to the roof. Beautiful scroll. Leaf and heart patterns I didn’t try to clean this- some people want the patina left on.
