Civil War Reynolds Escutcheon for Thomas Boden 50th MA inf. & USS Gemsbok USN
A large escutcheon that was likely done by John Reynolds of the Salem MA zouaves. Reynolds. Who was a wounded War veteran, filed a patent for displaying military service records in this form in 1864. These were very expensive and depending on the price would get more expensive and could run $50. This is a nice piece of work and was done for an unusual soldier by the name of Thomas Boden. Originally this says he served on the USS Gemsbok from 8/27/61 to 8/27/62. I could not find a record from this from the Park Service, but that is not surprising. This then shows he enlisted in Co. A of the 50th MA and went in on October 6, 1862 and mustered out on August 24, 1863. The US war records show this as a private. Part of this is hand painted, part of it is printed. It has some water staining and looks worse in the picture then it does in person. ... moreIt is about 23" x 17" While the Gemsbok had a very interesting time and took numerous prizes, the 50th MA served a boring existence in the siege of Port Hudson and about 1 person was killed in action out of about 1,000 soldiers. I am offering a Shou style BRASS DOOR ESCUTCHEON PLATE. Produced by Schlage. Patent applied for on May 16. 1958 and issued April 21, 1959. Appears in good condition. Following I learned on Wicipedia. Escutcheon can also refer to an item of door furniture. In this case. It is an architectural item that surrounds a keyhole or lock cylinder. Escutcheons help to protect a lock cylinder from being drilled out or snapped. And to protect the surrounding area from damage and wear from the end of the key when it misses the keyhole. Some escutcheons come in pairs with a plain one to go on the outside of the door while the matching escutcheon inside has a rotating cover to prevent prying eyes. The cover also prevents insects and dust from getting into the house/room.

Up for auction is a RCA RADIOLA 17 Brass ESCUTCHEON Plate. This is for the dial. Selector control. This is solid brass with the original patina still there. Sold as-is and all sales final. Antique French Solid Brass Entry Door Lockset Set Knob Plate Escutcheon Lock Key
Penn Antique Restoration. Antique French Style Entry Door Set Knobs Plate Lock Key. Wonderful. Antique, entry door lockset made by"Russell& Erwin Mfg. Co. of New Britain, CT around the turn of the previous century. The set consists of 2 cast brass knobs, 2 stamped brass escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with bronze faceplate, 2 working keys, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 set screws to connect the knobs. All brass/bronze parts are solid brass/bronze, not brass plated steel. The knobs and escutcheons have a stunning French style design featuring fleur de lis. Prim roses, leaves, cartouches, and various geometric shapes. All parts were found dirty and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then. We've clea ned and polished all parts to a uniform finish. There is a break in the upper right corner of ... morethe cover plate of the lock body. The break does not hinder the set's functionality and once the lock is installed in your door. It will be concealed. There are also some shallow dents and light scratches on the lock's faceplate. The rest of the parts are in excellent condition with no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. The lock was opened. Inspected, and we sprayed machine oil on and around all parts to facilitate their movement. We also made 2 keys to operate the lock, and we could make more for $6/key-email us after the auction if you are interested. Most antique. Exterior locksets have one, grand escutcheon for the front of the door, and 2 or 3 smaller, less attractive plates for the back. Sets like this, with 2, large escutcheons, are rarer and make a bigger aesthetic impact on the overall splendor of a door-don't miss this opportunity!
