The door has a solid wood core covered with(1/4" thick wooden veneers, has 4 beveled glass lites and 2 recessed panels. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/4" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. We have a good selection of period hardware to outfit the door(check out our eBay store) If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood. Please email us for a quote. Condition: On the exterior side of the door. Both of the ... morepanels are warped and cracked; the lock housing, bottoms of the lock and hinge stiles and the rail below the glass lites are all cracked; and the edge of the lock stile is chipped. On the interior side of the door. The veneer on the bottoms of the hinge and lock stiles are cracked; there is a piece of veneer on the bottom rail that is broken off; and the top and bottom of the hinge stile, a piece of molding next to the glass lites and the edge of the lock housing are all chipped. Otherwise. This door is in very good shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes-minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted. Quirks& Considerations: Approx. 1/4" was cut from the bottom of the door. Except the veneer on the exterior side. So the door now sits on the remaining 1/4" of veneer. The door is made of solid, old pine and is painted on both sides. If you think that pine is a weak. Soft wood; please keep in mind that the wood milled from modern pine trees, which only grow for a few decades before they are cut down, is not the same quality as the wood that was milled by our forefathers from trees that were hundreds of years old. This door was built using the wood from mature pine trees, and exhibits the qualities of wood that has endured the test of time. As a result, it's physically harder, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and more insect and rot resistant than today's pine lumber. Beautiful Victorian entry door with Norwalk hardware c 1863
We have recently removed a beautiful. Half stained glass Victorian entry door with 1860s Norwalk hardware from our home. It was fitted as a passageway door and believe it's been there since the house was built in 1983. House is very quirky-in case you're wondering what an 1860s door is doing in a 1980s home! It's pine wood- I believe. And in good condition for it's age. Lovely hand carving, particularly on the inside of the door. The glass is a mixture of different colors/textures including blue. Amber, red and green- very pretty. 2 of the glass panes have small holes in and 2 others have cracks. It is hinged on the right if you were standing outside facing the entry. In our home it was fitted as a passageway door. It is in as found condition-all I've ever done over the last 8 years is clean the door with furniture oil ... moreand the glass with warm mild detergent solution. I've never cleaned the hardware. Dimensions are 80 1/2 x 36. The set consists of 1 bronze pull consisting of 2 square, back plates and thumb latch; 1 round, bronze, mortise cylinder plate; 1 octagon-shaped glass knob w/brass shank;1 bronze rosette; 1 brass thumbturn; 1 steel mortise lock with a bronze faceplate; 1 bronze mortise cylinder with 1 working bronze key and bronze anti-theft collar; 1 bronze strike plate for the door jamb; 1 2-piece, threaded spindle to connect the knob; and 2 brass bolts and washers, and 2 iron nuts and washers to secure the pull. Antique window was salvaged from a historic home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. It has a solid, riftsawn, red oak frame and 21 pieces of clear, original, glass set within a leaded skeleton. The central leaded arch is adorned with 8 lead, floral motifs-1 is missing. You could tell that the piece was well-maintained over the years because it is in excellent condition! All of the glass is intact and in good shape; the leading is firm and tight; and the frame is strong and sturdy. With only a nicks and scratches. The door is made of solid Douglas Fir and is painted on both sides. The door has 2. Arched"tombstone" style windows with ORIGINAL, wavy glass-incredible to think that it survived for well over 100 years! The glass has bubbles, dimples, and the charming, uneven"wavy" surface that only antique glass has. Below the windows are 2, vertical raised panels. Also, notice the beautiful, bold applied(raised) molding on the exterior side of the door-what a great accent! Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/8" thick, birch veneers, and has 1 impressive, full-length window. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, and soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees doesn't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old has. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door ... morecould be sanded and refinished several times before the door would need to be re-veneered. Hardware: The door is not equipped with any hardware. However. The door has a solid pine core covered with 1/8" thick oak veneers. When most people hear"pine" they think of a cheap. Weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10- 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine. Also. Please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. These veneers are 1/8" thick and provide strength and stability to the door. The door could be sanded and refinished several times ... morebefore the door would need to be re-veneered. The most obvious and impressive feature of this door is its beautiful. Arts& Crafts style arrangement of 13, true-divided, beveled glass lites. After countless Montana Mules– draft beers with tomato juice– Knievel decided that one day he'd try to jump a motorcycle over the Grand Canyon. Of course. A motorcycle can't stay airborne that long and the U.S. Department of the Interior wouldn't hear of such a thing anyway. So Knievel, bought my own damn canyon. Eight years later, on land he had purchased on the Snake River Canyon of Idaho, in a contraption he called a"Sky-Cycle" a bucket seat attached to a steam-powered thrust engine designed to carry Knievel one mile across the canyon, deploy a parachute and drop to earth, landing on sort of a pogo stick located in the Sky-Cycle's nose– Evel Knievel launched himself into celebrity history. Knievel hired former Navy engineer Bob Truax to build the rocket-powered Sky-Cycle. The Sky-Cycle cost over $150.000 and was unsuccessful in clearing the canyon in test runs.
