But it does not detract from the beauty of this fine door plate. The plate shows normal wear and signs of age and is in very good condition. Solid, thick, cast bronze door push plate made by"SargentÂ& Co. of New Haven, CT around the turn of the previous century. This Gothic escutcheon weighs 3lbs. 10oz. At the point of salvage. The plate was unevenly tarnished. Since then, we've cleaned and polished the plate to a uniform finish. There is some light pitting on the face of the plate. However. those little dimples are character marks of the past. This is a complete matching set acquired from(sadly) a Midwestern Victorian mansion that burnt. One brass knob is 2-3/8" dia. and weights 9.3 ounces and the other is 2-1/8" dia. and weights 6.7 ounces. This is an early Reading Hardware Co. The condition o f each item is depicted in the photos. One of the largest plates has the most rust and was probably exposed to the weather. I collect and clean rusted cast iron and I believe this one will clean up any of the different rust removing process es. ANTIQUE VINTAGE BRASS DOOR PUSH PLATE 12" - New with package from 1930's
Welcome to my auction for antique hardware. This push plate is new. Made by Sargent and Company in New Haven. CT. No. 892 The size is 12 inch by 3 inch. It feels heavy and is likely brass or bronze. The metal is very glossy as you can see in the picture. These hardware items were originally purchased by my uncle in the 1930’s; but never used. He was a carpenter by trade and built many beautiful homes. I have clasiified all these items as used; since I did not buy them originally. It is possible that there is some discoloring of metals or flaws over the years. I am no expert on cleaning these up. So I am leaving everything in“ as found in the attic” condition. Let me say again this item shows no wear or use. Everything is being sold as is. So look close at the pictures. I have taken several photos of most item. Antique Very Fancy Victorian Cast Iron Door Knob Plate Escutcheon Hardware
This very fancy. Cast iron, Victorian door knob backplate/escutcheon dates to the late 1800s. It measures 6 3/8" tall x 1 1/2" wide, has 2 screw holes, a keyhole and an opening with a raised collar for a door knob. The surface has designs everywhere with the background filled with a diamond and flower pattern and a raised edge design that has a leaf and shell-like motif surrounded with a beaded edge. The back is plain and unmarked with no maker's signature. The plate has glimmers of a brass/copper wash, and evidence also shows on the back, but I have not attempted to clean it so that decision is up to the winner.
