Another incredible antique hardware find! I was given the chance to salvage anything I wanted from a small antique barn that was going to be demolished. I went over the entire barn with a fine tooth comb. I found many fantastic treasures.including this piece! This kick plate was on a side entrance door. Above the door was one of those green& white porcelain barn lights, of course I salvaged that.it sold immediately! I estimate this kick plate to be about 55-65 years old It is made from solid brass/bronze.not the lower quality steel with a plating You may find cheaper back plates that are plated. Have a man-made antique finish that tries to look old and are lower quality metal.You may find a solid brass kick plate, However you will not find a more gorgeous authentic antique kick plate that has aged perfectly for 55-65 years. The patina ... moreand character on the bronze can only be created by many, many years of exposure to the elements. The kick plate is in excellent antique condition. I used some sandpaper to remove paint that stuck to the back side of the kick plate(last photo is the back side) from the door so their some scratches on the back side, of course they will be hidden when installed on a door The kick plate lays flat and true. It is thick heavy gauge brass/bronze I will include some oval head solid brass screws 3/4" long that match the finish perfectly they are made to protrude a tiny bit from the surface. Not flush mounted(see photos)I like the look when they protrude slightly I feel it adds architectural character. The existing screw holes in the kick plate are beveled/recessed. Penn Antique Restoration. Antique Neo-Classical Cast Iron Entry Door Set w/Knobs. Plates, Lock, Key. Exquisite. Antique exterior door lockset salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. The set consists of 2 iron knobs, 1 iron escutcheon, 1 iron rosette, 1 iron keyhole cover, 1 iron mortise lock with 2 working keys, 1 iron strikeplate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews to connect the knobs. All parts are made of solid, heavy, thick, cast iron, not flimsy wrought or stamped iron. Originally, some of the parts were copper plated, however, some of the copper plating wore off over the years leaving the parts with a nice distressed finish. The set was removed from a grand. Victorian entry door. At the point of salvage, the set was found painted, rusted, and dirty(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned and polished all parts ... moreand removed the paint to the best of our ability. The set has the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on a 100+ year old hardware. However, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or deep scratches. We opened. We have offered this item before. But with what we think were not very good photos. This is an attempt to improve the showing. The gothic style heavy(approx. 2 3/4 lb. bronze door plate is ready to be used with any fitting lock and doorknob. It has a light patina which we have purposely left as is since some people prefer it this way. It is approx. 14" in height, 3" in width, and stands out from the door approx. 1/2" The lock hole is approx. 4 inches from doorknob base(center to center. There are 4 holes for mounting. As can be seen, this was designed primarily as an outside escutcheon.
