Antique, exterior door hinges salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Each hinge is made of solid, heavy, thick, cast iron and has an acorn-shaped finial on each end. Originally. The hinges were coated with a black enamel paint, however, much of the paint wore off over the years leaving them with a nice, distressed finish. About Lift-off Hinges: Each hinge consists of 2 halves. Which are connected in the center by their"knuckles" The knuckle of one half has a pin and the other has a mortise. The knuckle with the mortise sits on top of the knuckle with a pin; gravity holds it in place. To separate the halves, you simply"lift off" the half, which is sitting atop the other half. Once installed, these these hinges will allow you to simply lift your door off of the jamb; no need to remove the hinges; no tools or spending time. At the point of salvage. The hinges were painted white and dirty. Since then, we've removed the paint, and cleaned and polished the hinges to the best of our ability. We cleaned them years ago, and since then, they've rusted a bit, which enhances their distressed look. If you would prefer them without the rust, we could re-clean them prior to shipping for another $6- emai l us after the auction if you're interested. The hinges are in excellent condition with only the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on 100+ year old hardware. However. There are no breaks, cracks, chips, or deep scratches. Unlike the hinges made today. Which you could buy at your local hardware store; these hinges are thicker, heavier, and stronger. They were made of solid cast iron, not a cheap composite or alloy, and were built to last a lifetime. Antique hanging hearth copper apple butter pot has a wonderful patina. Wear marks you expect to see in a well loved and well used example of Early American cookware. The bottom shows fire marks. Under the rolled rim and the edge of the bottom is evidence of dovetailing beneath another metal. Penn Antique Restoration. Pair of Antique Cast Iron Steeple Tip Lift-off Door Hinges 4 1/2"x4 1/2" Left Hand) Please note that these hinges could only be installed on a left-hand swing door. Heavy-duty. Antique, exterior door hinges salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Each hinge is made of solid, heavy, thick, cast iron and has a steeple finial on each end. The halves or leaves of each hinge is 3/16" thick! About Lift-off Hinges: Each hinge consists of 2 halves. Which are connected in the center by their"knuckles" The knuckle of one half has a pin and the other has a mortise. The knuckle with the mortise sits on top of the knuckle with a pin; gravity holds it in place. To separate the halves, you simply"lift off" the half, which is sitting atop the other half. Once installed, these these hinges will ... moreallow you to simply lift your door off of the jamb; no need to remove the hinges; no tools or spending time. At the point of salvage. The hinges were rusty and dirty(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned and polished the hinges to the best of our ability. Unfortunately. One of the tips broke off of one of the halves(see 2nd photo) Otherwise, the hinges are in excellent condition with only the typical nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on 100+ year old hardware. However, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, or deep scratches. Both hinges swing freely, and separate with little effort. Unlike the hinges made today. This set of hinges are salvaged items. The hinge on the left of the pictures has original finish& washed with soap and water to remove loose dirt and dust. It has some spattering of paint on it. The hinge on the right was soaked in paint thinner and wire brushed due to the fact it was so caked with white paint you couldn't even tell what the hinge looked like! I was able to get most of it off but it still has some paint in the ornate areas of the plates. They are 3 x 3. Pins are straight. Hinges move nice and free. No damage to the castings. The 4 X 4" size is hard to find since they were usually only put on front doors of the house which also wore them out. Good olde vintage cast iron is stronger and harder than the new soft reproduction stuff they make in modern hinges. Likely cast in the late 1880's to the early 1900's. These have a nice sharp. Clean and fancy casting. The pattern is also on the back of the hinge knuckle and shows when the door is closed. The hinges were stripped of all the paint and wire brushed. The hinges were sprayed with clear acrylic lacquer finish made by Sherwin Williams that is specially made for cast iron and exterior applications. This is a better finish than ... morea hardware store spray paint. This clear finish has superior scratch and water resistance. They are 5 5/8" long from tip to tip and they are 4" wide laying open. The pins are loose and removable. 3 ANTIQUE BLACKSMITH FORGED CAST IRON STRAP HINGES
You are bidding on three antique cast iron. Blacksmith forged barn door/gate strap hinges, all probably from the late 1800's. The first hinge is 19" long and 1.5" wide at the hinge tapering to 1" at the spade head. It is 1/4" thick from the hinge to the head. The opening in the hinge is approximately 1/2" in diameter. Strap still has old paint on it. The second hinge is 21" long and 2" wide from hinge to end. It is 1/2" thick at the hinge and tapers to approximately 1/4" at the end. The hinge is 3/4" in diameter. It is very old and has square holes. The third hinge is 24 1/4" long by 1.5" wide from hinge to the rounded end and is 1/4" thick through the entire length. Hinge opening is 1/2" in diameter.
