i am not an expert on these pc's.i picked them up at a local(NH) farm house estate sale. Knowing they had age to them, and intriqued by the forged look! upon gathering info. I have discovered they were shutter dog/hinges. amongst other interesting. Related do dads, from same lot. they measure appox 3 1/2" long. i used the quarter to show help gauge sizes of the various pcs. the camera panned the same'lot' in the same place.i did not move any pcs for the multiple close ups. they seem strong(altho i did not try to hammer them into anything! and not delicate or brittle. plz view photos. Very old pair of very large and very heavy cast iron hinges. 29" LONG x 10" WIDE(at the widest spot) Each hinge weighs approximately 25 Lbs. Very good condition overall. No chips or cracks and most of the original black paint still remains with light surface rust in parts. There is one 1/2" square nut missing from the main pin on one of the hinges. Easy to replace. Threads on bolts are still good. There are seven 1/2" mounting holes on each hinge. Two holes in the doorpost half and five holes in the strap side. These hinges are very old but are still very serviceable. They could be used on a barn door in the country or in a New York City loft. Lot of 4 Antique Cast Iron Shutter Hinges & Ornate Gate Hardware - Handle, Latch
I recently acquired these at an estate sale and they were bought attached to a display board. I hit the pieces with a dry scrub brush and easily knocked most of the surface rust off. I think hitting them with a wire brush and some primer could bring them right back. Please see item condition and pictures for more details.
