This vintage cast iron valve has the following imprinted on it: KT Valve No. 8A. Los Angeles, Pat. June 21, 1904 and August 1, 1911. It has several pieces hooked together: 1) Round(7 ½ inches) mechanism cover with two rectangular pieces sticking out. 2) Round(6 ½ inches) with writing) that goes on top of the cover, 3) Handle that turns the screw that opens/closes the cover, 4) on the bottom is a curved piece that holds the screw in place. The handle/screw still turns. This piece shows much wear and rust but is still a unique piece of history. It weighs 4 1/2 pounds without packaging. It is in good condition with no pits from rust. The bin pull was stripped of all the old layers of paint. It was then cleaned and sprayed with clear acrylic lacquer finish made by Sherwin Williams that is specially made for cast iron and exterior applications. The handle is a little larger than most you’ll come across and was probably used on a large Victorian home front window or possibly in a school or in an industrial type building. The grasp has a 3 ½” grip opening or what I would ... morecall an average size hand 4 finger pull. This would have had a nickel finish but that is all but totally worn off the bottom of the grip. The years of usage has given the whole handle a nice dulled appearance. If you lightly wipe this down and give it a clear coat it will retain its patina for many more years to come. This would work great on large windows or screen doors or on heavy drawers. This is well made and heavy and nothing like the cheaply made imports of today. The measurements are taken at the attachment base: 5 ¼” long x 1 3/8” wide with the center to center of the screw holes being 4 ½” x ¾” Free first class shipping in a padded envelope. This is an antique kettle used for making. Coffee, tea or boiling water for other needs. Also used to put humidity in the air in the early days. I remember my grandmother had one although she didn't use it when I was a child. It is cast iron or cast aluminum. The lid of the kettle slides open to add water and closes easily. Nice to use for decorative purposes in a whimsical garden or other areas of the home. This kettle is primitive and extremely heavy. At some point someone had put plaster on the inside. The movement of the dial is good and smooth. Picture 5 shows where you slip the material into the slot and press down on the handle. A metal punch comes down and you can see picture 7 how the letter H looks. There is a flap under the punch area that opens to remove the debris from the punch. I do not know what this was used for. There are the numbers stamped into the base: 5 9 6. Than the numbers 4216 also on the base. Heavy tool has a wooden handle with a crack in it, but it is a sturdy solid handle measuring at 6" with 4 1/2" wood.
