I have others similar to this one listed also. If you’re a buyer who not only wants an antique handle but also one that looks old then this just might fit the bill. The grasp has a 2 ½” grip opening or what I would call an average size hand 3 finger pull. This would have had a brass finish but that is completely worn off. This has a smooth darken appearance with traces of light smooth surface rust and spots of old green paint. If you lightly wipe this down and give it a clear coat it will retain its patina for many more years to come. This would work great on windows or screen doors or on drawers. This is well made and nothing like the cheaply made imports of today. The measurements were taken at the attachment base: 4” long x 1” wide with the center to center of the screw holes being 3 ½” x 9 1/6” Free first class shipping in a padded envelope. Oil has been applied but they should have a final cleaning and clear coated or painted for continued protection. Please take a look at the many other antique hardware items I have listed. My pictures are large because I not only want to tell you what you’re getting but also for you to see what you’re getting. NOTE: Be very careful when buying antique hardware. 1890's Cast Iron Flat/Sad Iron Inner Core w/Wooden Handle Iron Hood Cover-Dover
this is an early cast iron 1890's sad iron. similar to the dover type iron that was made by the dover mfg. co. they tried to improve the iron by placing a hood over the that would hook into it and the hood was lined by asbestos to retain the heat in the iron and not to travel to the handle grip. the hood is not marked but the sad iron underneath says asbestos 72-b sad iron. there are 2 holes. One on each side so that when you push the bar on top of the hood it clamps into those holes. this style also enabled you to be able to warm more then one iron and then just switch the handles. there is chips in the wooden handles. needs cleaning and repainting. in good used condition. view my other iron listings. can combine shipping.

Here is a nice old Chagrin Falls. Oregon, Sadiron, size#2,with wooden handle that fits a little bit loose, but not dangerously so, and detaches easily. Weight is about 5.5lbs with handle, base measures about 6-3/4"x3-1/2" and is pointed at both ends. Handle is varnished, metal parts of handle are painted silver. Top and sides of base are black, bottom is unpainted. Bottoom of base has a light rust mark, may be filed or sanded off. Myth# 95: They are called“sadirons” because ironing was such a hated chore that any woman would be sad to iron. The dictionaries should be enough to debunk this myth. The Oxford English Dictionary and Webster’s give the word’s origins. The sadiron(today it is one word) is one type of iron. There are many others. Developed for special uses, like goffering irons that pressed ruffles or specially shaped irons ... morefor sleeves. The OED says that the sadiron is a smoothing iron, solid and flat, as opposed to a box iron that is hollow and meant to hold coals(so it didn’t need to be heated and reheated on the stove) It says that the word sad(or sald) once meant heavy or compact. Weight is about 7.25lbs with handle, base measures about 6"x3.75" and is pointed at one end, dating it as older than a double pointed iron, or any other iron with a detachable handle. Handle may have been modified, as there is an indication that the original handle was welded, or attached, fore and aft on the base, and it is now attached in the center. It is balanced very well. Antique Primitive Axe Hatchet Hammer Wood Handle Hand Cast Forged Iron
Description PRIMITIVE HATCHET HAMMER Offered for bids is a primitive antique hatchet/axe with hammer end and nail puller. Part of an estate with antique farm tools. Head appears to be hand wrought cast iron. Approximately 6" long and 2 1/4" wide at widest point of blade. Nice shape with rounded nail pulling cutout at base of blade end. The hammer end is not perfectly round. Instead it is made up of eight flattened sections. Hatchet has its original wood handle which is gently curved for a comfortable grip and is approximately 11 1/8" long. There is no maker's mark. Unsure of age, I estimate this is from the early 1900's. A Very Nice Primitive Carpentry Tool CONDITION: There are visible signs of wear. Including light surface corrosion. Hammer end has indentations, nicks and gouges. One side of blade has an V shaped cut ... moreinto surface. Head is loose and wobbles, though is still attached to blade. There are four nails driven into head end of handle(please see image) I don't know if this is what is keeping the head on or not. Blade has an edge, but there are small nicks and it is dull. Handle has a chip at bottom and some chipping/rough spots near head. Handle is still intact, functional and solid. There are scattered spots of paint on handle as well as some on blade. There are two holes on one side of handle. These are"clean" and look to be intentionally made, but do not go all the way through to the other side. I don't know what their purpose is. Deep chicken fryer cast iron pan and lid. There are no identifying marks on the bottom of the skillet that I can see. The lid has an hourglass figure on the inside. Pan is 11" across and 2 3/4" deep. With the lid on it is 6" from the top of the handle to the base of the skillet.
