These are very old nails that we found in old barn. They are all 3" long. Great for folk art and restoration projects. Some items are heavy and needs large box for shipping. This is a BIG(17" tall with handle upright) Double strapped, Beautifully hand painted, Covered Firkin/Sugar Pail, with handle. It is blue paint with gorgeous hand painted Pink Roses and Buds. The design is stunning and it is"marked" by the artist with a small smudged thumb print(pic 10+11) The staves are tongue and groove, and the straps are really nice with copper nails and staples. The straps are separate and holding the staves together as one piece, not nailed into the pail. The bottom is beveled and grooved into the staves. The top is gorgeous and out of round, and the strap around it is held on with tiny square nails. The piece is showing shrinkage of the wood indicating age. This Firkin is a Beautifully Crafted and Decorated piece of FOLK ART! I believe it to be early 20th century, from the construction, darker color ... moreof the paint on the outside, and the shrinkage of the wood on the top and between the staves. GREAT VINTAGE, ANTIQUE MILK GLASS VASE WOOD MOLD BLOWN, SWAGS AND HOB NAILS
Nice early milk glass vase of small/medium size of exceptional style and quality. It is obviously hand blown into a mold. As exidenced by the mold marks on the sides. It is blown into a Three piece mold. The base shows swirls of a wood mold. And has the mold number 304. I do not know who the maker is. Please notice the swags at the shoulder and base. Also incorporated are hobnails at the neck and base, I do not find any chips or cracks around the body or base. However, the mouth shows a deal of"roughness" which to me indicates that this piece was blown into the mold from the mouth, and the pontil was snapped off at the neck, which subsequently was not polished, and the roughness is a condition of manufacture. It is very old as you c an see in the un-retouched photos there is very fine. Thin dovetailing along with square nails with oxi dation around them. The hardware is very old and no screws are used anywhere. It is solid construction. There was. At one time, a small box mounted inside to s tore small items. Columbia River - Antique Square Nails
Up for auction today are 5 antique square nails found on the Columbia River. We found these while hunting arrowheads. I think these were probably used in an old homestead but I can't rule out the good possibility that they were trade items acquired by the natives. They were found where we also found various artifacts. We didn't find a great deal of them which I would have expected if they were from a nearby homestead. In any event. They are good representations of the various types of relics found on the Columbia River. These range in size from 2 1/2" to 5" in length. They show great aging which. I guess, means they're rusty. these were found in the attic of the Estate I am cleaning out(see my other auctions for more of the estate finds) the small paper in the box reads: nails from Old Palestine Church 1770. This Church was in St. Johnsville in upstate New York and torn down in the 1940's. I am not an expert in old nails or how to tell if they are as old as they said. But I do know that everything in this house that I am cleaning out is no older than the 1950's and most everything goes back as far as the 1700's(we have found a LOT of first edition books from 1700's and 1800's that will be for sale at a later date) so with that said- this is all I can tell you about these nails. Antique English 19th Century Walnut Divided Cutlery Tray Square Nails Beautiful& Simple 19th Century Divided Cutlery Tray with Cut Out Handle constructed of walnut and secured with handmade square nails. The walnut wood is smooth and worn with a rich aged patina. The tray has three sections. One long and two smaller on the opposite side divided by a center board incorporating the cut out handle. The wooden tray. A utilitarian staple of the 18th and 19th Century is in very good condition. It has survived it's often damaging purpose with only minor scratches and losses to the finish. The underside of the tray is unfinished walnut which would polish beautifully. The tray measures 15 5/8" wide x 9 7/8" deep x 4 3/8" to the top of the handle. The largest interior section spanning the entire length of the tray measures approximately ... more14 3/4" x 4 1/4" On the opposite side of the center divide are two interior sections. The Coloring is still Great. There is some foxing on the white Flowers. Noticeable upon close inspection. There are no tears. The litho is on a stiff backing. Which also serves as the backing for the frame. The Antique Wood Frame is in Great Condition. There are Six Porcelain Button Nails on the frame. There may have been porcelain buttons on the two side pieces at one time. There is some minor wear on the finish. The frame displays beautifully. The original wavy glass and wire hanger are included.
