It consists of 2 brass knobs, 2 brass escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with brass faceplate, 1 brass mortise cylinder with a brass anti-theft collar, 1 brass strike plate for the door jamb, 1 steel spindle with a setscrew and 1 securing pin to connect the knobs, and 12 installation screws to fasten the lock and plates to the door and jamb. All brass parts are solid. Brass, not plated steel. Except for the escutcheons which are stamped(pressed) brass, all brass parts are heavy, thick, cast brass. Originally, all parts were copper plated, however, only traces of copper remain. At the point of salvage. All parts were dirty and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've cleaned and polished all parts to the best of our ability. All parts have some cosmetic blemishes including nicks and scratches. Which are best conveyed by the photos. However, these just add a distressed charm to the parts and do not pose any threat to the structural integrity of the parts. All parts are strong, sturdy, and ready to serve another lifetime. Lock: The mortise lock is reversible and could accommodate a right or left swinging door. We found the cylinder mortise without a key. Without a key. We are uncertain if the cylinder works. You could take it to a local locksmith, who could rekey it for under $20. If it is not functional, you could also buy a new cylinder for the same price. The mortise lock was opened. Inspected, and we sprayed WD40 on and around all internal parts to facilitate their movement. The lock operates smoothly. Antique NORWALK LOCK CO. Brass Mortise Door Lock, Knob and Handle Set
Up for auction is a Norwalk Lock Company brass mortise lock with an oval"egg shaped" knob on one side and hinged brass pull on the other side. Made in So. Norwalk. Conn. this is a heavy set that weighs over 3 pounds, 6 ounces. I do not have a skeleton key to fit this set, but it should not be difficult to get one from a locksmith. I'm not sure if it is solid brass, but I have put a couple of different magnets up to the knobs and mortise and found no magnetic attraction. The mortise is 13/16" thick, 4 1/2" tall, and 3 5/8" front to back. The manufacturer's info is stamped on the lock, as you can see in the last photo. There is also a number 14 at bottom of the lock side. The knob part is about 2 3/8" long, and shows some shiny spot on the outer edge, which could be from hand wear or from someone trying ... moreto shine it up. It feels like it is solid. The pull/handle, which is hinged, also measures about 2 3/8" long. This handle also has a round faceplate. The mortise has some paint on the edges, which I could flake off with my thumbnail, so it isn't on tight. I'll leave paint removal to you. The side of the mortise with the knob is a brassier color than the other sides and edges, which have more of a patina. It doesn't look like it was polished, just that it wasn't exposed enough to get a patina. That side does have some tarnish spots. Please check the photos closely, and ask if you have any questions. One end is fixed to the doorknob with a pin and the other would have used a set screw on the knob neck. I carefully rewmoved each pin with a punch to make sure they were reusable. Antique Mortise Lock Hardware New Haven Conn Patented May 6, 1868
Great antique mortise door lock/ hardware. This piece has a patent date on it of May 6. 1868. It is marked on the opposite side with what looks like N V& Co. New Haven. The mortise has some surface rust mainly on one side. The mortise measures about 5 3/4" in height and 4 1/8" wide with a thickness of about 1 1/8" at the lip, and 7/8" on the inside. Please note the condition is consistent with the age. Most of my items are vintage, and will show some signs of wear associated with age. Please do not expect a vintage item to look new. 1 Set of Vintage antique mortise lock escutcheon plates. Very old. Look to be brass or bronze. Finish is currently antigue brass. Outside plate is 3" wide x 11" high with 3.25" center to center between cylinder and spindle. Supplied less screws. Plate is approximately 5/16" thick. Measurements for each one are 3 3/4" long x 1" wide(1 1/2" wide where the lock meets) There is wear on them that is consistant with their age and paint on a few of them as shown. Mortise lock has a face plate of 7/8' wide x 5 1/8' tall. 1/8' thick. Lock is 3 1/4' deep. Has a heavy duty aluminum face plate. Comes with one tested and functional skeleton key. I test the key multiple times on both sides of the lock to insure fit and function. The strike bolt can be reversed for doors that swing the other way.
