Antique Singer Treadle Sewing Machine Drawers Cast Hanger Hooks 1899
This Antique Singer Treadle Sewing Machine Drawers Cast Hanger Hooks& incomplete set of screws(not shown) has been gently restored. What does gently restored mean? The overall objective is to preserve as much as the old tool or item with its lifetime patina as possible without the use of power tools. Metal is typically initially cleaned using mineral oil. Or a weak solution of washing soda and water and if necessary brief electrolysis to remove and or convert rust to black oxide. Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun is immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of mineral oil. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in bees wax to seal it. A weak ... moresolution of oil soap and water is used to remove grime, old oils and dirt from wood which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is used occasionally. A couple of items should be noted. The first is this gentle process may not remove all rust or dirt, etc, as there is always a balance of limiting restoration to not affect patina. The second is that tools and items are not conditioned for use such as sharpening, tightening or replacement of parts. This is left up to the judgement of the new owner as there is a large range of utilization of older tools. Lastly, the item may have residual oil left in the cleaning process. This can be wiped off but the item may benefit from an additional application of clear oil to further enhance and stabilize the item for extended life. By sliding the front panel off one can select the crochet hook required and flip it up and out of the case. Then sliding the panel back secures the hook for use. The previous owner that was the barber told me that he worked there for 55 years and they were hanging in the back of the building before he even started working there. Antique Hand Wrought Trammel and Hooks for Fireplace Early 1800s
For auction is an early antique trammel with hooks. I would date it to the early 1800s but it could be earlier. These were used in cooking over a fireplace and the hooks allowed the food to be moved closer to or farther away from the fire. Despite it being rusty and pitted from the intense heat of the fire. It is in good, strong condition. The one hook(not attached) is 9" long. The double hook is 6 3/4" long and the chain is 46" long. On Dozen Antique Pflueger Wooden Hook Tubes and Hooks in Display Box An unusual estate find- this is a lot of 12 Plueger wooden fish hook containers in an original shipping/display carton. The hooks appear to be new old stock. As each wooden tube contains 5 unused hooks and the tubes show no apparent use. There are 7 Cinn. Bass 18 No. 9021 and 1 Cinn. Bass 17 No. 9021(label torn on that one) There are 4 Sneck 5/0 No. 9221. The box the tubes are contained in is for Sneck 5/0 hooks. Thus, the Cinn. Bass are non-matching to the box- see photos) The wooden tubes are all in very nice condition. The labels show some color fading from time, with the one mentioned mentioned above being torn. Porter Blanchard& Sons Company antique three piece butter mold made of white birch. The round molds are much more common- these are out there but not nearly as common. I have added a picture showing this butter mold in the 1902 Sears Catalog. Which I have. Picture is for reference only, and not included. Enjoy! 6" x 6" x 2" each mold is 4 1/2" x 5 1/4" Two of the sides are joined permanently to form an L shape sides are grooved to accept the stamp portion of the mold stamp is a single piece of wood with two cleats screwed to the back to keep it from warping two L shaped sides are held together by a brass pin and hook assembly After the mold is filled with butter and the print is formed the two hooks could be released and then the sides and stamp could be removed from the print of butter. The big advantage of this ... moremold was the ease of removing the butter print without damaging it. Blanchard butter molds were sold in the 1894-95 Montgomery Wards Catalog they sold them in three sizes prices were 85 cents for the half pound.
