Slidecros 4 Different Antique Brass Sliding Crochet Hooks English* Circa 1870-90 This little collection includes 4 antique sliding hooks made of brass and steel. One has sides embossed with a scrolling floral pattern. The top is scalloped and features a lighthouse. Below that is the maker's mark"M& Y" The oval rose embossed button on the side slides a tiny steel crochet hook out of the sheath and into position to crochet. It measures 4" closed and 5 1/2" extended. Another is embossed with trailing vine patterns. The flower shaped button slides out the steel crochet hook exposing a cut out cross pattern at the top. The side is stamped"W.D. and"Patent" It is 3 1/4" closed and 4 3/4" extended. The next one down has a scalloped top and embossed floral and geometric patterns. Here is a wonderful pair of authentic Wellsworth non-prescription glasses. They measure 5-1/4" long from frame to frame. And have round eyeglass pieces which each measure 1-7/8" in diameter. They have thin metal wire frames which measure 4-1/2" long and have wire hooks at the ends which slide behind your ears. The frames and nosepiece are made of metal and the crossbar has"WELLSWORTH" embossed into the metal. The round eyeglass pieces are marked"S" which is inside of a circle which may indicate that these were safety glasses. They do not have a date printed on them, however due to design, and craftsmanship, it is believed that they date between the early 1900's to the 1930's. The frames have some tarnishing due to age, however they are in excellent working condition with no broken parts. IT ORIGINALLY WAS A RACK THAT HELD WILD GAME. PARTRIDGE, RABBITS, SQUIRRELS ECT. AFTER BEING SHOT AND READY TO PREPARE TO COOK(KINDA GROUSE) BUT THAT'S HOW THEY DID IT BACK THEN. IT IS APROX, 27" LONG 8" HIGH AND 7/8" DEEP. THERE ARE 7 HAND WROUGHT HOOKS ALL ABOUT THE SAME SIZE. 5 Vintage River Mussel Shelling Hooks Pearl Button Crowfoot Brailing Antique
Offered are five vintage river shelling hooks used on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers. These hooks were used to catch river mussels. The hooks were tied to a long bar which was lowered from a johnboat and dragged over mussel beds on the river bottom. Mussels would clamp down on the blunt barbs. And the mussels were collected from the bar when it was raised. The shells of the mussels were used in the manufacture of‘pearl’ mother of pearl) buttons before plastic buttons replaced them. Freshwater pearls were also recovered. The mussel shells were also used as seeds for cultured pearl production. These 5 crowfoot hooks are in excellent shape. And perhaps were never used. The hooks measure about 6 inches in length, and the barbs are splayed from about 1 ½ to 2 ½ inches wide. They are made of two intertwined pieces of wire, and spiral ... morebound with another piece of wire. Please refer to photos to judge condition for yourself.
