This listing is for an antique used cast iron pinwheel style heat grate or air vent register. It measures 9 3/8” x 9 3/8” across the top. The pinwheel measures 7 7/8” across. The bottom raised lip is 7 3/8” across and it would required a minimum 7 1/2” hole to install, and dept of hole must be at least 1” This grate has no cracks, repairs or breaks and is in good condition with normal use wear. The pinwheel opens and closes very easily. There are no makers markings on this grate, but many of these were made by the Reading Stove Works of Mount Penn, Pennsylvania. This grate was obtained about 25 miles from this location and may have been made there. This is a nice piece for the restoration of an early home. From what I could determine the register was built in 1922. The tag indicates who it was made for. The cabinet is oak. The overall height of the register is approx. 5 ft. The widest part at the handle is approx. 32 in. and it is approx. 20 in. deep. Very heavy. This has four cash drawers, four storage drawers and one blank, along with the bottom storage compartment. There is a hole in it where perhaps something stuck out of it to help move the dial. Cast iron floor grate would be good for cold air return. I believe this use to have louvers. But they have been removed. Outside dimensions are 16" x 14" What remains of louver frame fits 14" x 12" Does need some light cleaning and new coat of paint. No chips or cracks that I can see. It does have small dent near one corner that is difficult to see. But overall in good condition.

Old Victorian Register made by Tuttle and Bailey. New York patent extended April 27 1872. Outside dimension 12" x 16" Louvers work as good as new. Little to no surface rust in very good condition. Has all of the original paint left. We left as found and this lets new owner do what ever they wish without going over someone else's work and they can match to needs. This register has been stored since the 1950's when it had been replaced. It was wrapped in the replacements packaging. Fits 10" x 14" opening or maybe could go in even a little larger opening. Weighs approx. 13 pounds and has no damage, scratch marks, etc. The light rust comes off with a little fine steel wool or rust remover or just spray it with Rust-Oleum or other paint.

Up for sale is a beautiful piece of antique cast iron a rchitectural hardware. It was salvaged from a very old Chicago estate. This air register is adorned with a pleasing geometric design and also possesses four pilot holes on each corner of the grate for easy installation. There are several foundry hallmarks from the manufacturer which are located on the back of the vent. They read"V.R. 20,24" This wonderful vent is in superb condition, no cracks or breaks anywhere.
