There are no cracks or breaks in the solid cast brass. The lift was sprayed with clear acrylic lacquer finish made by Sherwin Williams that is specially made for cast iron and exterior applications. This is a better finish than a hardware store spray paint. The 10 hexagon shaped pulls each measure 1-3/8 inches long and 1-1/8 inch wide. One of these pulls has a large chip on the base which does not go through to the center hole(last photo. Each drawer has several metal number plates. One drawer is divided. Measurements: 11" x 19 1/2" x 4" deep Shows normal signs of use. Dark patina to wood, porcelain handles/knobs are dirty, could be cleaned up nicely. One drawer has an area with what looks like melted wax, could be removed if you so choose. ANTIQUE ACCENT TABLE CABINET w/FLIP-TOP & SOLID BRASS HARDWARE~WALNUT HARDWOOD??
Going through the many. Many boxes that I inherited, that were stored in an air conditioned storage down here in Florida, I found a very rare find: this very cool and very old antique accent table/floor cabinet which is very unique because it has a flip top. This cabinet has a solid brass 1-1/2" x 1-1/4" hardware mounted on the top that is flush but has a finger ring for lifting the top that will go all the way back. This flip top is hinged with two solid brass hinges and it also has a solid brass lock that is flush mounted on the top front. I did find a key inside of this cabinet but I tried it and didn't want to force it so I may need a slight lock fix up. My number one guess on the type of wood that this cool antique cabinet is made of is walnut but it could be oak. I know it is made out of a very heavy hardwood because for ... morethis cabinets size it is quite heavy weighing over 26 pounds. This cabinet has two front drawers: one is 3-7/8" tall and the other is 7-1/4" tall. Both drawers have very decorative solid brass drawer pulls. The measurements of this antique cabinet are: 15" wide, 25-1/2" tall, and 14" deep. Like I mentioned before, it does weigh over 26 pounds. The legs on this cabinet are 1-1/2" square. For being very, very old, this cabinet still looks good the way it is but it would probably look great if it was refinished. If I kept this cabinet I would personally would keep the finish the way it is but I would buff and polish the brass. I love buffed and polished solid old brass because it comes out looking like pure gold, but in the past I was told by my buyers and watchers: DO NOT BUFF AND POLISH OLD BRASS! Again, for being very old, this cabinet(or if you want to call it an accent table) is still very tight and even the hinges and other hardware are still very tight. Nice lot of antique cabinet door latches from many years ago. There are different styles and types in the lot. Many of these have ceramic knobs. 5 of the ceramic knobs ones have cast metal bases(one is dated 1871) the other 5 have brass plate bases. The ceramic knob ones average about 2 inches in length. Also included are other old latchs and latch housings and odd catches that I thought someone might be able to use. They are located at the bottom of the first picture and generally do not match the ceramic latches. These are neat old latches. I do not run across the ones with ceramic knobs often. I have an interesting lot of very old chunky solid brass marine hardware for your consideration. All the pieces are heavy cast brass. Each latch is over 1/2 lb in weight. I rubbed one of the handles and it had a red sheen so I am assuming they are red brass. These are in as found condition with some greening. Dirt,dings and bends. The latches are spring loaded and 3 of them still operate with springs. The other 6 have broken or missing springs. All the springs probably should be replaced if you were to reuse. There appears to be a pin that could be peened free or drilled out to accommodate. There are 5 flush locking rings, 3 heavy pivoting handles and one catch that is damaged that you could use as a prototype to fabricate some thing that would work together for a catch. One of the handles is slightly bent but could be heated and returned ... moreto shape if you wish. These might have been used in a ship captains quarters for safety and security of valuables judging from there appearance. These would have endless possibilities for furniture, cupboard, cabinets or marine applications. I am guessing these to be turn of the century or so. Antique Ornate Victorian Cast Iron Cabinet Latch, Old Eastlake Cupboard Hardware
Here is an old cast iron cabinet latch with keeper. This antique latch was cast with nice decorative details. It was designed to be attached to the face of the cabinet or cupboard. It is about 3 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. It is about 1 inch tall at the tip of the knob. This latch has a porcelain knob. The keeper or catch is a close match for the latch but is not a perfect match. The shape of the end of the keeper is close but slightly larger than that of the latch. The keeper has some black paint over the original finish. The latch has its original finish plus some off white paint. The spring inside works so you can pull back the knob. Open the cabinet door, and then the latch will move back when you release the knob.
