C. 1770 Olive Green Case Gin Bottle
Fine. Large 18th century European"case gin" liquor bottle in a medium clear olive green color, c. 1750-1790. Square base with sloping flat sides. Applied mouth and thick, rough tubular pontil scar. Measures approximately 9.5 inches tall. Very good to excellent condition with some light interior staining. A few minor surface scratches and a small chip on one corner of the base. Glass is fairly thinly blown and has a nice ring when tapped.

This is a vintage reproduction of a Stiegel bottle from the famous Henry Stiegel glass works of the 18th century. It is hand blown amethyst colored glass with a pontil on the bottom. It is marked MMA. Also on the bottom. It was purchased by my Mom from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC some years ago in the late 1960’s. Please see the explanation below from the internet: A fine vintage reproduction of a Stiegel-type bottle or flask. This example has a vertical or pillar optic in the glass and is a beautiful. Dark amethyst color. It was made in the 1960s by Pairpoint Glass for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. During this period, the Met, and other American museums were commissioning and selling exact replicas of pieces from their collections from contemporary American glass companies. Here is what I know for sure-it's green glass inside a old wicker basket. I know I really love this piece and that my family has had it for a long time. I have seen this forever and really never have it much thought until I pulled it out of storage So you may know everything there is to know simply by looking at the photos. I honestly didn't know a thing so I did some goggle research and what I have decided is that this is indeed an old green glass and wicker carboy or demijohn with corks and a spigot or tap spout. 18th/19th c. Olive Green Case Gin Bottle
Very nice 18th/19th century"case gin" liquor bottle. Circa 1780-1820 and probably Dutch. It has a good applied lip and an open tubular pontil scar on the base with good wear on the edges. Nice olive green glass in lighter shade sprinkled with an array of seed bubbles. No damage to glass that I can see and it has some very light interior staining.
