A Victorian Tavern Glass Rummer - Antique c1860
8437 Victorian Tavern Rummer Description A mid 19th century Victorian tavern rummer dating around 1860. It is of tough soda glass. Usual for this type of ware which needed to be hard wearing. It is of typical form with a U shaped bowl and slightly tapering thick stem. The foot is conical and the pontil is rough snapped. This type of glass was commonly in use in pubs and taverns throughout the 19th century. Some were also used domestically as general purpose glasses. As they are generally quite tough. They are good to use today and reasonably inexpensive for an antique glass. Condition Good order with just some minor wear. Small captured air bubble to the foot and some minor mineral inclusions. Foot not quite flat so the glass has a rock when sent on a dead flat surface. Dimensions(approx) Height 13.3 cms(5.25 inches) Width 7.5 cms(2.9 inches) ... moreat rim. Including trailing to the foot, and four applied prunts. This example has a clearly snapped pontil. And is lead glass. This leads me to believe it is English. The ribbing on the bowl is mould formed and then wrythen. Height 9 inches Top rim diameter 3.5 inches Foot diameter 95 mm. Weight 467 grams. Holds around 0.5L. C19th Cut Glass Large Goblet/ Rummer with faceted stem This is an unusually large wine glass or rummer. It is hand blown and hand cut glass. The foot has a central polished pontil mark. The stem is a thin baluster shape with hexagonal facets. I'd date this to the second half of the nineteenth century. Size: about 6 3/4 inches high( 17.3 cm) Weight: 391 grammes Condition: good- light wear: one tiny bruise to the edge of the foot that shows as a reflective dot in the glass: see the photos. Each goblet has a drape pattern with detailed flowers finely cut along the wider top area of the bowl. The stems are a baluster style with a single knop and a single ring. The amazing quality of these goblets is the sound which they make, and how long the sound rings for, just handling them brings out a long resounding ring, truly unusual they sing to you. There is no damage on the glasses. American cut glass is generally divided into 3 periods. Early(1771 to 1830) Middle(1830 to 1880) And the Brilliant(1880 to 1910) or even to 1917) In that the glasses phosphorus lime green, they may be from the Early American Brilliant Period or as referenced by Swan"Circa 1740, manganese was used” The use of manganese ... morethat which was the first step in verifying a possible date. The first american cutters such as Hawks& Dofrflenger& Gillilanz& Niland were all had English Anglo Irish backgrounds and so there first(original) designs were all anglo Irish styling. Hawks& Dorflinger cut numerous stem patterns that were based upon or even exactly the same as the stems that flourished during the English Georgian period. Then we further researched the articles at Laurie Leigh Antiques whom shows numerous Georgian articles of which these glasses are similar in design and style. The two glass we have listed stand apart from our other American Brilliant period glass. The ring when pinged resounds for 10 to 15 seconds. Longer then our other pieces. Perhaps these are old Waterford C 1729 to 1851. Irish cut glass(Waterford in particular) reached its greatest fame from 1790 to 1825. The excise tax was imposed on Ireland in 1825, as in England, when less lead was used to save weight. Could the unusual length of the resounding ring verify that they are early Waterford, we do not know. VICTORIAN LARGE SQUARE BASED CUT CRYSTAL RUMMER A very large Victorian square based rummer. Measuring 5½" tall and 4" wide at the rim. The bowl has a central freize of hobnail cutting. Two horizontal bands define the upper and lower edges of this freize. A band of thumb prints are cut above and below this freize. The uppermost row of thumb prints has an interspersed row of fans(three cuts) All hand cut. The bowl sits on a double domed foot. Which is square and is star cut. The glass weighs 600 grams. Rummer English New Castle Upon Tyne circa. Late 18th century Sunderland Bridge
Fist type of English engraved flint glass Rummer with St Nickolaus Cathedral which I believe is in New Castle Upon Tyne England in background. Beautifully engraved with ships and Sunderland bridge commemoration and early Lemon squeezer base which has a chip and trimmed foot on a side as you can see in the picture but and a ball knop which is not common for these. The huge bowl with this ball knop is the earliest form circa.1795-1800. Just a great historic glass with owners initials! This would be a very expensive glass with perfect foot. Late Victorian Olive Moulded Rummer
This is a good quality moulded lead crystal rummer. Probably dating to about 1870. The glass has been made in a three-part mould. The design consists of a vertical panel. Made up of a large olive above a column of squares in relief, and bordered either side by a deep groove. This design repeats nine times in total around the bowl. The stem has a low set knop and has six vertical facets. These continue a short way onto the plain foot, which is slightly domed in the centre. It has a height of approximately 14.3cm. With a diameter at the rim of about 8.7cm and at the foot of about 8.0cm. It is in excellent condition. With no chips or cracks.

8505 Three Bistro Rummers Description A set of three late 19th century rummer glasses. The style is that used in pavement cafe's and these examples may well be of French rather than British origin. The glasses are made in soda glass and have baluster shaped stems. The bowls are of cup form and they have been etched with hops and vines suggesting their intended use was for ales. The size(about the same as a current small wine glass) would indicate they would have served fine quality ales rather than regular beer. A pleasing little group. Condition Two in good order for the period with just minor wear. The third example has a bruise to the rim. But no sharp edges so could also be used if required. Offered for sale is an antique rummer. Clear glass. Hand blown, hand cut and hand etched in England in the first half of the 1800s. Just obtained from a local house, fresh to the market! Historical and Commemorative British Glass. Glass is decorated with a central panel depicting two large frigate ships. Small ships, and the rock of Gibraltar. Etched on the left side are the words, CAPTURE OF GIBRALTAR and on the right side of the central image BY THE BRITISH FLEET 1704. Square base with diamond start cut pattern to underneath. Glass was made in three pieces. Bowl stem and base, which were fused together. Measure: 5" high. Bases: 2 1/2" square. Chips to the corners on the base. The rim has no chips. There are no breaks. Heavy Antique Cut Glass Covered Rummer or Sweet Meat Dish
This is a beautiful piece of glass. Measuring approx. 5" high to top of lip and 10-1/2" to top of finial. The dish was made in two separate pieces and joined with a wafer. Underside of base is decorated with a 16-point cut star and has old wear around the outer edge. The finial appears to have been made separately and applied. There is one tiny chip in the edge of the finial base where it is applied-NO other damage or problems to either the top or bottom, and both pieces have a great ring when tapped. Antique 19th c.small rummer wine glass or goblet with square foot
I have for sale a small glass Rummer or goblet dating to mid 19 th century. The glass stands 12.5 cm(5 inches) high. Has a rim diameter of 7 cm and sits on a square foot 6.5 cm by 6.5 cm. The glass has a funnel shaped bowl on a short stem with a blade knop at the top finishing in a domed base which sits on the foot. The foot is square of the“lemon squeezer” form. The thickness of the glass foot is 0.8 cm. It is made of hand blown English lead glass of good weight and has an excellent ring when“pinged” The rummer is in very good condition with no chips cracks or restoration. I accept payment by PayPal. The goblets are about 5" high and just under 2 1/2" across the top. They are in really good condition with no chips or cracks. The base appears to be the original scalloping and has not been reduced. This is scarce. Circa second half of the 19th century(1850-90s) hand blown goblet or rummer with applied iron rings along the bottom. Has a height of 2 7/8" The rim has a diameter of 3 3/4" The base has a diameter of 2 1/8" The hand blown flint glass is free of any chips or cracks. Unpolished. Sharp pontil. Olive green in color with amber tones towards the bottom. The lower portion portion of the goblet has five circular kick-out decorations. Each one is framed with an iron ring all of which are connected. Upon first examining the piece. It appears to be continental European in origin, circa late 16th or 17th century. Victorian facet cut rummer
Large early Victorian rummer. Facet cut with a polished pontil, this glass is in good overall condition with a couple of tiny flea bites to the lower edge of the bowl, i have not seen one shaped like this before and can not fins another example, it reminds me of heavy panel cut 1850's glass and at a guess it dates around that time. The inner bowl of this glass is heavily stained and will need an acid wash to clear it up, some like the history of use so i have not had it cleaned, this costs around a fiver, this will take hours to polish out with cerium oxide powders. I have for sale an excellent Bohemian cut glass Rummer or wine goblet dating to the 19 th century. The glass stands 13.3 cm(5.25 inches) high. Has a rim diameter of 7 cm and sits on a thick foot with a diameter of 6.2cms. The glass is made of thick and heavy Ruby and clear glass and has a bucket shaped bowl cut into 10 panels. It is made of hand blown lead glass and has a good ring when“pinged” The glass has engraved patterns of clear glass showing floral. Mythical and musical details. Early Victorian Highly Cut Ogee Bowled Rummer
This is a stunning. High quality lead crystal rummer, probably British in origin and dating to around 1840. The bowl has a cylindrical upper portion and a tapering conical lower portion. Below the rim there is a circumferential wedge cut topped with a band of fine diagonal needle cuts. The conical portion is cut with a band of eleven arched panels that tapering in as they approach the base of the bowl. There is a broad collar at the junction of the bowl and the short waisted stem. The foot is plain and polished flat. It has a height of approximately 11.9cm. With a diameter at the rim of about 7.9cm and across the foot of about 6.7cm, although this is not entirely circular. It is in excellent condition. With no chips or cracks, although there may be the odd wear and tear scratch to the bowl and foot, commensurate with the age of the piece.

Neil Wilkin Glass Lead Crystal Rummer
This is a modern very high quality lead crystal rummer inspired by original Georgian glassware. It was handmade by a local Somerset artisan. Named Neil Wilkin. The large plain bowl sits on a shallow collar that attaches it to the round knopped stem. The foot is polished flat but the pontil is slightly rough with some visible tool marks. The remains of the sticker confirm the maker as Neil Wilkin. As these glasses were handmade there may be slight variations in dimensions. So the measurements quoted are approximate. Rare Set 5 Irish 19th C. Georgian Cut Glass Applied Ring Rummer Wine Glasses
Wonderful and rare set of five hand blown rummers or wine glasses with panel cuts. Hollow stem, and applied ring with cuts. The glasses and hand blown and show a pontil mark on the base. These are in wonderful condition for their age showing very little wear and no damage. One shows an area on the base where it was cut from the marver(shown) The glasses measure 5 1/8" inches tall and hold 6 ounces. A fantastic set that any collector of 18th-19th century stemware will truly appreciate.
