They were'sniped' Sniping means placing a bid in the closing seconds of an auction. There is a way to protect yourself from snipers and prevent being outbid at the last moment. If you bid the absolute maximum you are willing to pay. Ebay's proxy system will do the work for you. Human nature sometimes makes us resist making the highest bid within our spending limits. But proxy bidding does work. There is a common misconception that snipers always win. The truth is that they don't. To win, they must outbid you. By placing a proxy bid at your maximum limit, someone else can outbid you only if they are willing to spend more for the item than you are. If someone places a last-second bid that isn't high enough. They almost never have enough time to get back in and place a winning bid before the auction ends. WE W

A Georgian Antique Single Series Opaque Twist Spiral Gauze SSOT Wine Glass c1765
A particularly good Georgian period single series opaque twist stem wine glass. It dates to the mid 18th century around 1765 to the early reign of George III. The glass features a large bell bowl which is widely flared and or larger capacity than usual for this period. The stem is a scarce single series form and it has knops at the top and bottom which is a rare feature. The twist is a spiral gauze which is well formed and very arractive. The foot is of standard conical type and the pontil is rough snapped as you would expect for this period. The glass is the English lead variety and of good quality. Overall this is a very nice example for the collector. Stock Code: 7397 JN12-5 Height 16 cms(6.3 inches) Width 7.1 cm(2.75 inches) at rim 7.2 cm(2.8 inches) at foot Weight 208 grams(before packing) Good order with only minor wear to the bowl. ... moreThe stem has a few mineral inclusions some of which are in the top knop and there is also a visible example in the lower third of the stem. Otherwise just slight air bubble inclusions as typical for period. The bowl is particularly wide flared and large which is why it is nearly the same size as the foot in this case- there has been no re-polishing of the foot. Rare Georgian Military Naval or Marine Anchor Pendant with Stone or Glass
Here is a rare and fantastic early military pendant! This is piece dates anywhere from the Revolutionary War to the War of 1812. I have never seen anything like it. There is a suspension loop which is still in tact. This is a very cool relic that every collector of navy and marine items should be interested in. Guaranteed authentic and I offer a 14 day return on this item if you are unsatisfied. Must be returned in the same condition it was received for obvious reasons.

Georgian Sterling Silver Mustard Pot blue glass liner London 1820 (Geo IV) 96g.
A Georgian sterling silver mustard pot of particular charm embellished with a delicate border of foliage and seeds and a monogram within a wreath of leaves. The base and the rim each have a rope border and the elegant handle has a scallop shell to enable the lid to be opened easily. The whole piece recalls the Roccoco period in its lightness of form: it is wider at the base and tapers to a narrower rim which is set off by the beautifully shaped handle. The piece is completed by a blue glass liner to contain the mustard. There is a shaped keyhole for a mustard spoon. Measuring: 3 1/4 inches(8.2 cm) in height. The width across the handle is 3 1/8 inches(7.9 cm) the diameter of the base is 2 1/4 inches(5.6 cm) and the diameter of the rim is 2 inches(5.1 cm) Hallmarks: TD the maker's mark for Thomas Dicks; the lion passant for sterling silver; ... morethe crowned leopard's head for London; the date letter e for 1820/21 and the king's head duty mark. The marks on the lid include the lion passant for sterling silver. The silver weighs 96 grams without the glass.

Possibly the finest ... morepiece of hairwork under domed glass ever found! This piece is for the true collector of this rare art form, for in this piece, art is what it is. Most pieces found today have some"trace" of who the memorial piece is for- a name. A date of death, sometimes even a picture. But THIS piece has none of that save for a handwritten note on the back(in French) which I have not deciphered. THIS piece of hair work under glass could be displayed in a"pride of place" for it has no"personalization" to the front. The design is unique. Yes. The usual tomb within a graveyard but take a closer look and you will see all the incredible detail this piece has to offer. To say that it took months to make is probably an understatement. Every leaf of the WEEPING WILLOW, every branch of the side trees, every PANSY at the bottom of the scene, the tomb, the gates, the fence are hand cut from hair and placed delicately, WITHOUT any visible signs of glue, onto the pale cream background. And did I mention the Nun? Her face is handpainted and her clothes cut from very fine paper and molded into a habit. Her hands and face are truly the only"white" this piece has to offer

It is in overall nice condition but does have some faults and with these being that it has some chips around the bases edge and inner ... morebase edge and has an extremely minute hardly noticeable indent to the top slightly above and to the right of the tiny lip for lifting the lid and with the many pictures giving a good representation of condition and where it can be judged on it's own merit. They ring like bells when struck with the fingernail and the sound is sublime. These are in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. In my humble opinion these unsigned stems are equivalent in quality to Stueben. It took a lot of skill to make these, they feature a hollow stem and a domed foot with a folded edge and a rough pontil on the underside. From my research I learned that this type of stemware was in fashion during the early to mid eighteenth century. These were an estate sale find, I don't ... moreknow exactly how old they are but the style is definitely 18th century. They came from an estate that had some extremely old family heirlooms. Pair Georgian / Victorian Heavy Blown Glass Whisky Tumblers Half Pint C.1830-60
Pair Georgian/ Victorian Heavy Blown Glass Whisky Tumblers Half Pint C.1830-60 This is a good pair of very heavy blown glass tumblers dating. In my opinion, from between about 1830 and 1860. They are made of a good quality glass- may have some lead content- and have polished pontil marks on the bases. They are quite large. Easily taking half a pint( 500ml) Both are in good condition. But with fairly heavy wear, particularly to the base and rim, as you would expect. There are no chips, cracks or bruises, there are some scratches- they have obviously been well used over the last 150 years or so. Lovely plain shape. very tactile. Altogether excellent glasses to drink whisky or beer from. Size: 4 1/8 inches high( 10.6 cm) approx x 3 5/8 inches wide( 9.2 cm) across the rims. Weight: 977 grammes before packing. Payment must be made within 7 days ... moreof winning bid unless other arrangements have been made. If there is a problem with payment. Please contact me. I am quite reasonable and willing to help sort out any problems, but If I receive no contact after 7 days have passed, a non-payment case will be opened and I will offer the item to the next highest bidder. Payments from overseas must be made with paypal unless other arrangements are agreed with me prior to bidding. U.K payments can be made via paypal. Personal cheque or postal order. Cash on collection is also possible by arrangement. Postage Costs: I keep my postage costs to a reasonable level- but they do have to reflect the costs of lightweight packaging materials and the time spent packing the item properly so that it will arrive with you in one piece. I usually add about one pound on top of what Royal Mail or Courier charge as the shipping cost to cover the materials used- I recycle what I can but still spend a lot on bubblewrap. Tape, boxes etc. It is not my aim to make a profit out of shipping costs, but I do spend many hours packing items and my time is valuable too. NOTE THAT EBAY NOW CHARGE AN ADDITIONAL FEE TO SELLERS OF 10% OF ALL POSTAGE COSTS
