In the summer of 1923 she had made an extensive tour of Brittany and Normandy, and had produced a number of landscapes and canvasses on the journey. This simple. Yet classic Gothic design pitcher has a beautiful look and is in great condition. It has no chips, cracks or any discoloration. It has a round embossed mark on the bottom and incised within it reads"A. BROS.HANLEY" and"Gothic" There is a"18" in the center as well. This mark was used by G. L. Ashworth during the first few years he was in business. He was in business from 1862 to 1884. The Gothic craze ran mainly from 1840 to 1865. The stoneware of this pitcher is similar to that used by Charles Meigh for his"Apostle Jug" and his other Gothic pieces during the 1840s. This pitcher was more than likely produced between 1862 and 1865. The popularity of Gothic design had pretty much worn out during the very early 1860s. This beautiful pitcher measures 8"20.4 cm) in height and 6"15.3 ... morecm) in diameter. The handle is 5 3/4"14.8 cm) in length in extends another 2"5.1 cm) out, away from the pitcher. The flared base has a Gothic design and the embossed pattern on the body features overlapping arches, similar to a cathedral window. There is small stippling(dots) between the embossed designs that set off smooth raised areas. The"sparrow beak" spout is fluted and the handle is embossed with Bell flowers on either side. The handle and the interior of the pitcher are more highly glazed to prevent body oils, dirt, etc. from people's hands from leaving stains. This pitcher weighs 2 pounds. There is a tiny indentation on the outer rim of the bottom. This is not a chip. It is smooth and is a defect that occurred during production of the pitcher. This large and unusuaI shaped pitcher is in lovely condition. It is also very heavy. Weighing 4 pounds. It measures 9 3/4" 22.3 cm) in height, 5 1/2" 14 cm) in diameter at the mouth(or top) and is 7 1/2" 19 cm) in diameter at the widest point of the pitchers body. The mark on the bottom is an impressed crown with"Copeland" in an arc above it. To the right of this is an impressed letter"U" over the number"77" There is also an impressed letter"Z" to the right of the number. A few inches away from these marks is a blue transfer tiny"magnifying glass" shaped mark as well. The word England is not on the piece. This Copeland mark started being used in 1860 and use of the word"England" was regularly used after 1890. This means the pitcher was more than likely made between ... morethese two dates. The pitcher has a 2" border of blue transfer leaves and flowers under the glaze. It also has five embossed rings around the neck. There are 14 embossed white flowers that encircle the pitcher and three separate blue transfers of peonies, roses, buds, stems and leaves. It has a simple, thick handle that ends in a leaf shape. This is an original 1865 made in England piture. It has a certain charm that comes with age and paint wear of the older pieces The pitcher is in good condition. It has very few chips or nicks in it. It is 7" a the shortest outside. 9" at the tallest point, 4" across the middle, and 5" from the farthest edge to the spout. The pitcher is a bit darker than the picture shows especially on the bottom. I do not have a history on this vase except I bought it from a friend who collects antiques. I could not get a good picture of the bottom where the 1865 is clearly stamped on the bottom, as well as the"made in England"

This antique Victorian silverplate lidded water pitcher has wonderful Aesthetic Movement repousse and Eastlake incised details with some very unusual and interesting additions: the lower portion of the spout is shaped like a bird's head. And there are mysterious figures and odd creatures adorning the upper rim. Why on earth are those little humanoids shooting at creatures that look like walruses and a(in relation to the shooting figures) huge Puss in Boots? Very strange. The pitcher has no significant scratching and very little wear to the plate. But the upper rim is a bit misshapen, as shown in closeup. This pitcher is double layered with the pink glass on the outside and the liner being of white satin glass. A professional appraiser wrote: The piece I believe is a Denby Pottery Piece. One of their early works, they did the Gravel Finish, here is a picture of a piece by them. You can see the gravel. Yours is a great item and very unique along with the very good quality or workmanship. History The pottery at Denby was founded on the estate of William Drury-Lowe in 1809 as a manufacturer of stoneware bottles. It was run by Joseph Jager in partnership with Robert Charles George Brohier; the partnership was dissolved in 1814. By this time. Clay from a deposit on the land was already in use at the Belper Pottery. At the beginning of 1815 William Bourne of the Belper Pottery and his sons William, John and Joseph took a 21-year lease on Brohier and Jager's factory. Joseph Bourne ran the works at Denby and Belper in tandem until 1834, when he closed ... moredown the Belper pottery and moved its equipment and workforce to Denby. Bourne later took over the Codnor Park and Shipley Potteries, and merged them into the Denby works in a similar manner. Joseph Bourne took his son Joseph Harvey Bourne into partnership, and the company became known as Joseph Bourne and Sons, a name it kept even after the death of Joseph Bourne in 1860. Using a new patent process for drying slip invented by Needham and Kite of Vauxhall. The pottery produced at least 25 tons of workable clay each day. In the nineteenth century most of the ware produced was salt-glazed stoneware. Bourne patented improved kilns for stoneware in 1823 and 1848. The pottery produced a wide range of utilitarian stoneware products including telegraph insulators, ink bottles, pickle and marmalade jars, spirit and liquor bottles, foot warmers, churns, mortars and pestles, pipkins, feeding-bottles, pork-pie moulds, druggists' shop-jars, snuff-jars, spirit-barrels, pudding-moulds, and water filters. This is the Registry Mark of Richard Champion that dates to between 1774 to 1781. Champion Pottery was located in Bristol England in the late 1700's. Lovely, antique French Cruche - pitcher
Antigue wine pitcher from the south of France in the typical mustard colors. The design is simply charming- so contemporary for such an old piece. Bought this in Aix many years ago and have so enjoyed owning it. Now moving/moved to very small digs and must pass on much of my beloved pottery collection. This is called a"cruche" or"gargoulette" both mean pitcher. 11" h x 7" w approx. Some typical fleabites around the spout and one missing flake on the handle. The base is totally perfect. What I do notice is a small- and crack is not the correct word here. At the base of where the handle was attached to the pitcher body. It is approx. 1/4 and I guess I would call it a stress fracture which occurred during the firing. Essentially, the piece is extremely sound. Lovely Antique Pitcher & Wash Bowl Set Keramis Belgium Long Tailed Bird Design
This auction is for a Lovely Antique Pitcher and Wash Bowl Set made in Belgium by Keramis. It is Beautifully designed with images of a long tailed and colorful bird amid pink and yellow and green flowers against a cream colored background. The pitcher is in very good condition. Especially for its age. There are no chips or cracks or repairs. There is a very slight and hard-to-see firing line in the lower part of the handle(see photo 10) It is not a hairline and doesn't go through and it appears to be under the glaze and made in the manufacturing process. The images and the colors clear and bright. The bowl has a crack down one side(see last two photos) and wear of the gold accent paint along it rim. Even so. Up for auction is an antique earthenware Majolica Wedgwood"Motto" pitcher from England. It is 6 1/2" tall and the base diameter is 3 1/2" The rim has two notches either to aid in hanging or else there was a lid at one time. It is white with dark brown trim and mustard colored beading and accents. It reads"WHAT THO MY GATES BE POOR TAKE THEM IN GOOD PART BETTER CHEER MAY YOU HAVE BUT NOT WITH BETTER HEART" It has the impressed"WEDGWOOD" along with the date code of the letters"CBM" which would date the piece to 1884. There is also an impressed"08" and a handwritten"964 U" There is also an impressed mark that has a star shape and an arrowhead shape. The condition is good.
