Glass and a great stressed leather with some nice fade here and there which only adds a great patina. The flask is by the distinguished maker James Dixon& Sons of Sheffield. By the makers mark I estimate this piece to be from the mid- to late-1800s(marking came into use in the 1860s) There is also a“D” and“8” stamped on the bottom. The piece is 5 5/8” high and is in very nice condition for the age– again see the photos. There is minor splitting in the leather at the top but this has been halted by applying leather fat and condition which is allowing more flexibility in the leather(it also brought out the gorgeous colors) It does not appear that the piece has been restored but there does not appear to be any break through on the silver plate. I gave the piece a quick. Light polish and it buffs out nicely. About the Maker The business of manufacturing silversmiths. Platers and Britannia metal workers was commenced in c. 1806 by James Dixon in conjunction with Thomas Smith in Silver Street, Sheffield. In 1824 they moved to Cornish Place, a large site, which enabled them to expand and develop the workshops, casting shops, offices and warehouses. In 1823 Thomas Smith withdrew and William Frederick Dixon, the eldest son of James, joined the firm. In 1830, the firm began making silver and plated goods at Cornish Place by acquiring the firm Nicholson, Ashforth and Cutts. When James Willis Dixon. The second son of James, joined the firm the name was changed to James Dixon& Sons. In 1836, the firm began to make spoons and forks from nickel silver- an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc starting from 1848 to produce electroplate. However, it was acquired from an estate cleanout dealer here in New Jersey. It is old and looks to me like an Art Nouveau décor. No chips or cracks. There is a dimple(not sure what else call it) in the glass from when it was made. I took a close up photo so you can see what I mean. Also. I did my best to polish the silver overlay but I was not able to get all to shine up. There is still tarnish or some sort of dark discoloration over the silver overlay. I'm not sure if stronger polish will get it to come clean or not. Blue glass has some scratches and marks here and there. Antique Cobalt Glass Vase in a Silver Plate (Sheffield) Mount
Antique cobalt vase in silver plated mounting probably Sheffield. The silver mount has a small indentation at the edge which has a mark in it. I can't make out the mark. It does look like a W in combination with another letter. The vase stands 6 inches high and is 2-1/8 inches in diameter. The cobalt insert does slide out for cleaning. The silver plated mount is in very goof to excellent condition. The glass is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks. Flat rate shipping is quoted. If actual shipping is less than quoted. We've cleaned and polished the set to the best of our ability. All parts are in great shape with only a few nicks and scratches here and there. Which are typical for hardware this old. However, there are no breaks, cracks, chips, dents, or deep scratches. We opened, inspected, and sprayed WD-40 on and around all internal parts of the mortise lock to facilitate their movement. It operates smoothly. The set looks nice in the photos. But it’s beauty and quality cannot be fully appreciated until you see it in person. Antique Oriental Ginger Jar Four Piece Two Lids Glass Plate Stand Indents Lovely
For your consideration we are offering this antique ginger jar. It measures 9 inches tall with the rounded lid on. My consignor remembers her mother treasured this item when she was a very small girl. She is now 85 years old. There is a significant crack/ chip on the rim which does not show at all when the lid is on. Please see photo. The rim of the lid does feel rough but it does not seem to be chips. Here is a beautiful egg and dart plate manufactured in 1889. This child's plate depicts the nursery rhyme"Little Miss Muffet" Which is the following rhyme: Little Miss Muffet sat on her tuffet. Eatting her curds and whey. Along came a spider and sat down beside her, and frightened Miss Muffet away. What is interesting is that the nursery rhyme is based on an individual named Patience Muffet who lived during the late 1500s. Her father was a famous entomologist who wrote the first scientific catalog on English insects. Apparently poor little Patience Muffet was eatting her curds and whey one morning when one of her father's spiders frightened her and she ran away. That event made her famous through time! Rare Antique 1850s 1/4" Plate Ambrotype Photo Well Dressed Man with Beard Glass
Up For Auction! This is an antique Ambrotype photo printed on glass. The old photo is on a heavy piece of glass and is the like the negative part of the photo with another piece of glass with black paint behind it that gives a dark background. It comes with a nice brown case with a red felt interior. The case is in good condition but the binding is a little loose but still is connected. It measures approximately 2.5" wide by 3" tall. Ambrotypes date from the 1850's to the 1870's. The photo is framed with gold or brass foil. It is possible that this could be an earlier Daguerrotype The image is of a well dressed middle aged man from the 1850's and he has a beard. I'm sure this individual was well off. Antique Midwest Lacy Pattern Glass Arched Leaf 7" Plate
Here is a beautiful antique lacy flint glass 7 inch plate in the design pattern called"Arched Leaf" This pressed glass plate is characteristic of the"new midwest" Which during the mid 1800s time period referred to one of the glass companies of western Pennsylvania around Pittsburgh, West Virginia and eastern Ohio. One company manufacturing pressed glass at that time was Bakewell and Company, which began manufacturing in 1808. Other factories producing lacy glass from 1825 to 1860s were RB Curling and Sons, John Robinson and Sons, Ritchie and Wheat Co, and Hobbs, Barnes and Co to name a few. What distinquishes this plate as being manufactured by one of the"new midwest" glass factories is the inclusion of knobbed or button feet on the bottom of the pressed glass plates. Which was not a design element of the new ... moreengland glass factories. On this particular plate the base of the leaves have knobs that serve as the feet to the plate. This plate design can be found pictured on plate#73 of Ruth Webb Lee's"Handbook of Early American Pressed Glass Patterns" Copyright 1931, as well as in Alice Hulett Metz"Much More Early American Pattern Glass, An Important Heritage" page 56, copyright 2000. No manufacturer has been attributed to this pattern. And there is no manufacturing date given. The plate is lacy in design, and heavy flint like in composition. This plate measures 7 inches in diameter by 1 inch tall. Excellent condition, with its only issue a surface flea bite to one of the back of the scallops on the rim. Up for a uction here is a very nice anti que glass butter dish in very good condition with only very m inor"flea bites" along the bottom rim of the dome/plate. The piece shows s igns of age i.e. rippling of th e glass on th e top of the dome(see picture 3) and a slight purpling of the glass which commonl y occurs in old glass pieces. The dome is slightl y opaque or frosted. Pretty detailing on the dome and knob. This is a Virginia estate find. We offer you this Nautical Gem, an Original Antique American 19th century to World War 1/ WWI US Naval Kerosene Search Light, in near mint condition(see condition description) As found condition, comming with other military lots we have listed up for Penny Auctions right now. This type of search light was used by all branches of Navy, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Impressive specimen, this one guarantees it was made for a more important/ wealthy clientelle. Equiped with all original pieces, dissasembles as you can see in the last set of photos. Canister on bottom unscrews, so does the top, and the very top(reticulated mushroom ... morevent cap) The gmagnifying glass in the front is present, and nice, held in by the"scissor" mechanisam safety(round) wire, which comes out the side, end by squeezing them together, realeases the glass. On two sides of the glass are two magnificent large jewels, one Green and one Red, signifying the traditional"Starboard" and"Port" side. Below the head of the lamp is a lever which could go three ways, as the signes say to"off" to the left, water" in the middle and"on" to the right. Lever moves like a charm, and it has a saw bracket above, to hold it in place at desired strength. Below the lever is the Mounting Clamp going outward on a slight angle, which is made of different much stronger metal, and displays different aging(slight rust) Bottom canister is fine, unscrews like a charm. Size is large 7.75" tall, 5.5" deep with the clamp, 3" deep without and 3.5" wide. Glass rim is 3.5" and glass is 2.5" diameter. EAPG ATTERBURY'S MEMORIAL HALL GLASS BREAD TRAY Antique 1876 Centennial Pattern Description: 1876 Centennial Pattern Oval Bread Tray with Clenched Fist Handles This nice. Old Memorial Hall Bread Tray is Number 226 in Tracy Marsh's book, The American Story Recorded in Glass. In her book. Some of the history of the bread tray is detailed as well as a great description of the tray, given as follows: The building portrayed on this tray was the most imposing of all the buildings at the exposition in Philadelphia. The tray is oval in shape and has handles molded to represent a human hand with the fingers grasped around a baton. Around the building is shown the lawn. Ornamented with shrubbery; a horse with rider, and carriages with people, passing around the building. The dates"1776" and"1876" signify the completion of ... morethe century of our national existence. Around the border is the inscription"Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread. At one end we find, Patd. July 6th 1875. Its me asurements are 13" long. 9" wide, and 2" tall. Measuring at the hand and bar handles. It is an original piece and it is heavy. The tray is in excellent condition without any chips. Cracks or repairs. There are a few"straw" marks as made and seen in many pieces of EAPG. The clear glass has an intricate open lace or lattice edge pattern. Looped layer upon layer, all done by hand. M easures approximately 9 1/4" in diameter and is approximately 1 1/4" high. The pontil on the back is rough and unpolished. This plate has nice weight to it and it rings like a bell when tapped. The maker is unknown. This lovely old plate is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. There are a few light scratches on the inside base. As well as a couple of straw lines within the glass which occurred during production. Any bright white. Yellow or red colors are from camera flash. NOTE: At this time. Up for sale we have a beautiful Antique Blue Milk Glass Plate. Also referred to as a"Ribbon" Plate. This lovely deep blue Art Glass Plate has a pierced border. In Victorian times these were many times decorated with ribbons and bows weaved in and out of the open lattice areas. This is a very fine plate with great molded winged Cherub's Faces, 4 of them all along the border. The plate measures 9 1/4" in dia. This is a beautiful example of Victorian Art Glass. There are no chips to report and basically the plate is in very fine Antique condition. However it does have an age crack or hairline across one of the side edges. It ends at the open work and is only a small ways in on the top edge. It cannot travel to the main part of the plate. It appears to have been there a very long time.
