This is bottle held Truffles back between 1850 to 1890s it is the smaller size and just over 6 in. tall. This is a dug bottle and it does have light scuffs and fine scratches but only under close inspection. The top has a very drippy applied lip with a deep kick up base like what's found on old wine bottles. This is the small and harder to find size most are around 9 in. tall. Has a conical kickup on bottom containing remnants of a refired sand pontil scar. Color could be described as a dense olive moss green with numerous bubbles. Lady's leg neck appearance to the neck. ANTIQUE EARLY ENGLISH FREE BLOWN BLACK GLASS SAND PONTIL PORTER OR ALE BOTTLE You are bidding on an early English free blown black glass Porter or Ale bottle. Dating between 1800-1840. This outstanding early English bottle stands 10-1/2" tall by 3-1/2” diameter. It has an applied double collar with stretch and tooling marks in the neck, crude whittled, non-symmetrical cylinder form with pronounced sloping shoulders, and a moderate kick-up sand pontil base which is typical of the era. Sturdy and functional in form. These outstanding, early bottles were typically thick-walled for strength and were made to survive extensive post-bottling handling, which was essential because this bottle type was typically reused many times. Glass bottles were a generally expensive commodity and relatively scarce. Bottles were typically reused, often for ... moredifferent products, and were rarely discarded unless broken and no longer usable. The‘sand pontil scar’ present on the base of the bottle is a type that was popular on early English dark green glass wine. Porter or ale bottles from the 18th century. This particular mark derives from a common method of empontilling a bottle so that it could be securely held for finishing the lip and rim of the bottle. The pontil scar was formed when the hot glass on the ball-shaped tip of an iron pontil rod was dipped in sand(or small glass chips) prior to application to the bottle base. The sand or glass chips were apparently intended to keep the pontil rod from adhering too closely to the bottle, facilitating easier removal. This fantastic early English piece is in outstanding condition with no cracks. Chips or damage of any kind. You will receive the exact bottle shown in the auction if you are the successful bidder. There is wear on the bottom, as to be expected Measuring about 19" tall x 11.5" in diameter. It is a very dark black amethyst in color. It has bubbles& irregularities, it seems to be irregular in thickness, being thicker towards the bottom. Some of the bubbles& irregularities are shown in the last 5 pics. It also seems to have ripples in the glass, I don't see any mold lines. I don't have a clue as to it's origin. How it was made, or how old it is, but I do know it is old, seems to be hand blown with a blob or applied top. Features awesomely rough seams with some extra glass poking up& out at each side of shoulder(see pics) and an outstandingly crude, hand-tooled rolled lip. Base has two small bumps/dots of raised round glass near, but not perfectly at the slightly concaved center. The color of this bottle is fantastic! Antique Green Glass Umbrella Ink Bottle w/ UNOCO Fast Black Writing INK Label, This auction is for an antique green glass 6 sided umbrella ink bottle with it's original paper UNOCO Fast Black Writing INK paper label. It measures 3" tall and has atriangle on the bottom. I believe it was blown in a mold. The lip is slightly uneven and has a flat side(this is not a chip) There are bubbles in the glass but otherwise it is in very good condition. The paper label is also in very good condition. This was found stored away in the attic of a friends ghrandfather, I do not know it's age. I am not a bottle expert so please ask any questions you may have before bidding. This is a beautiful dark olive(black) beer/ale bottle that is in excellent condition. it was manufactured between 1916 and 1930. Of very heavy glass. When the light hits the side of it just right, you can see the green. Otherwise no light shines through it. It measures 9 3/4 inches tall by 2 5/8 inches wide. Antique Circa 1820-40 Pontil Black Glass Squat Beer / Ale Bottle
This is a an absolutely stunning smaller squat Black Glass Antique Beer Bottle Circa 1820-40 dug in New Orleans. This one is stands 7 7/8" tall and has a base diameter of 3" This one is blown in a wooden mold as evident by the chipping effect on the glass when held up to the light. The top of course is an applied top typical for this period in great shape. There is the iron ball pontil mark on the bottom. This bottle is absolutely perfect no chips or cracks. This is a stunning dark green Bottle that unless held in the light looks black. This bottle when held to the light shows some bubbles in the glass as well as the beautiful effects of the glass being blown into a wood mold. The pictures of this bottle really don't do it justice. The black glass bottle has a primitive lip that is off center and looks unique. The base has a kickup pontil mark. The bottle stands about 8 1/2" tall. The color is a dark olive green. The bottle has no chips or cracks and looks amazing. I don’t think you could find a nicer one. This bottle was blown in a mold in the mid 1800’s.
