Although it focuses mainly on Alaska and the Yukon, it also includes sections on the Pacific Northwest including Idaho and Montana. The book is in decent condition for it's age with some fraying around the binding and a few pages pulled from the stitching. One of the maps has a slight tear outside the actual image (see Pic). The spine is still tight. This is an ORIGINAL with the maps (including the 6 foldouts) and book plate are all tipped in, making them easily removable. The reproductions have all the fold out maps placed in a pocket inside the back cover. Thanks for looking!

ORIGINAL 1860 PACIFIC RAILROAD SURVEY"Milk River" map showing in detail what was known at that time about the geography between eastern Montana and the Pacific Coast. In 1853-1854 Isaac Stevens. First Territorial Governor of the Washington Territory, led an expedition from Saint Paul to Puget Sound and back crossing the Rockies in Montana and Idaho in order to find a workable railroad route through the Region. This was the so-called Northern Pacific Railroad Survey and was one of several surveys commissioned at that time to find possible railroad routes across the western frontier. Measuring 5 feet 3 inches by 2 feet 2 inches, this map is a monumental achievement in and of itself. It documents much of the area covered in the Stevens Survey and the routes earlier covered by Lewis and Clark.
