This is a rather large 14 ½ by 20 ½ inch sheet map showing data from 1896-97 and published by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1900. The scale of the map is 1:125,000, and the contour interval 100 feet. The map is about 12 by 17 ½ inches on a sheet about 14 ½ by 20 ½ inches. Folded to about 7 by 11 inches. This map is Plate CXXXI from the U.S. Geological Survey publication: Twenty-First Annual Report 1899-1900 Part V Forest Reserves- Maps. It was issued folded to fit the size of the Report volumes. This is an original color map. Printed in 1900, not a reproduction. It is a nice looking map that shows an area in central Washington about 24 by 35 miles ... morein size. Part of Ellensburg is in the southeast corner of the map. Roslyn is near the western edge, and Mt Stuart is near the north edge of the map. The Yakima River runs through the south half of the map. Some of the place names on the map are: Ellensburg. Tharp, Dudley, Cristol, McCalhim. Teanaway, Clealum. Roslyn, Ryepatch, Liberty, Meaghersville, and Blewett. This is a topographic map with roads and towns which is overprinted with patterns that show timber resources and land classifications. There are five land classes in the legend: 1. Cultivated land; 2. Grazing land; 3. Cut areas restocking; 4. Merchantable timber Less than 2000 feet B.M. per acre; 5. Barren land. This large map would make a great display item. Its reference value is enormous as this is the first professional survey of these forest reserves. Which later became National Forests and shows the conditions as of 100 years ago. This is a rare map. Only found now in research libraries. My scanner bed is too small to show the entire map. But see the image of about 40% of the map to show the detail level of the map. 1897 Idaho& Wyoming Original Colored 15" x 10.5" Detailed Map This listing is for an original 1897 color lithographic map of both Idaho and Wyoming. It is extraordinarily detailed for a map its size and includes seemingly every city and town. As well as, counties, railroad lines, geographical references, including contour lines, hills, mountains, lakes, rivers, ponds, islands and prominent points if applicable. The map is on standard weight paper and measures 16.5 x 11.75 inches including ample margins that are somewhat greater than shown in the picture. The condition overall is fine and as shown in the pictures. The paper is over 100 years old and is age toned as should be expected. The map is a high resolution scan and therefore the size and details may seem to be greater than what is viewed with the naked eye. These maps ... morewere tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center with the tipping strip on the reverse. Residual of the tipped-in strip remains but it could be removed or trimmed prior to matting and framing. The crease may be pressed flat but it will likely never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear and soiling but the margins are sufficient that the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. As should be expected. There is age toning as the result of being exposed to air and more specifically moisture in the air. The paper is cream toned which tends to get slightly darker toward the edges. The fold in the center is darker as well. There are no water stains, nor unexpected odors. The reverse side is largely blank having only the map number and name in each corner. 1897 Oregon Original Colored 15" x 10.5" Detailed Map This listing is for an original 1897 color lithographic map of Oregon. It is extraordinarily detailed for a map its size and includes seemingly every city and town. As well as, counties, railroad lines, geographical references, including contour lines, hills, mountains, lakes, rivers, ponds, islands and prominent points if applicable. The map is on standard weight paper and measures 16.5 x 11.75 inches including ample margins that are somewhat greater than shown in the picture. The condition overall is fine and as shown in the pictures. There is a slight tear on one edge that does not enter the map area. The paper is over 100 years old and is age toned as should be expected. The map is a high resolution scan and therefore the size and details may seem to be greater than what ... moreis viewed with the naked eye. These maps were tipped into the atlas and therefore contain no staple marks. Most of the maps are double-page and therefore have a crease down the center with the tipping strip on the reverse. Residual of the tipped-in strip remains but it could be removed or trimmed prior to matting and framing. The crease may be pressed flat but it will likely never completely disappear. It should also be expected that the page edges will show some minor wear and soiling but the margins are sufficient that the wear will not be noticeable after being matted and framed. As should be expected. There is age toning as the result of being exposed to air and more specifically moisture in the air. The paper is cream toned which tends to get slightly darker toward the edges. The fold in the center is darker as well. There are no water stains, nor unexpected odors. The reverse side is largely blank having only the map number and name in each corner. Seattle area 1897 color map Washington Timber 14x20. This is an original map titled: Seattle Quadrangle. Washington. Land Classification and Density of Standing Timber. This is a rather large 14 by 20 inch sheet map saying in the bottom margin: Surveyed in 1893-94-95” on one side and“Surveyed in 1897” on the other side. It was published by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1900. The scale of the map is 1:125,000, and the contour interval 50 feet. The map is about 12 by 17 ½ inches on a sheet about 14 ½ by 20 ½ inches. Folded to about 7 by 11 inches. This is an original color map. Printed in 1900, not a reproduction. It is a nice looking map of the Seattle region that covers an area about 24 by 35 miles in size. The Puget Sound runs along the western edge of the map. Issaquah is on the eastern edge of the map. Whidbey Island and ... moreEverett are on the north edge of the map and the south edge of the map is at about the south end of Lake Washington. Seattle is in the southern half of the map. Lots of road and building details on the map. This is a topographic map with roads and towns which is overprinted with patterns that show timber resources and land classifications. There are seven land classes in the legend: 1. Naturally timberless; 2. Cut areas not restocking; 3. Burned areas not restocking; 4. Virgin timber(not merchantable) 5. Merchantable forests; 6. Cut areas restocking; 7. Burned areas restocking. This large map would make a great display item. Its reference value is enormous as this is the first professional survey of the forests and land classes in the area. And shows the conditions as of 120 years ago. This is a rare map, only found now in research libraries. My scanner bed is too small to show the entire map.
