This map was created to commemorate the 62nd Imperial Council Session of the A.A.O.N.M.S. Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine) held in Seattle. Washington from July 13-16, 1936. Centered on Seattle, the map covers western Washington states and parts of adjacent Oregon and British Columbia. The upper left corner features an inset map of Alaska. This very attractive double page map sheet titled WASHINGTON is from the 1899 printing of The Century Atlas of the World. The map itself is dated 1897. The atlas was"Prepared under the superintendence of Benjamin E. Smith. A.M. and published by The Century Company, New York. The highly prized maps in this atlas were engraved by The Matthews-Northrup Company of Buffalo, NY. The maps from The Century Atlas are acknowledged to be among the finest of the late 19th century. Displaying plenty of sharp detail. Attractive colors, and good margins for framing. My photos really do not do this fine map justice! The page is about 12 1/2 by 17 inches in size. The reverse is blank. The map has a vertical center fold. As published. Although it was published in the 1890 edition of Mitchell's General Atlas(Philadelphia: Bradley. 1890) a copy of the title page is included for authenticity. The maps have a copyright inscription with the date of 1887 by Bradley& Bro. in small print in the bottom margin. Bradley took over the publishing of the atlas from Mitchell around 1880 and continued to publish the atlas, Mitchell still maintained the copyright on the atlas but sold the copyrights of the maps to Bradley. The map is ... morenot mounted, matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. Overall. A Beautiful Map with Superb Color! Size: The map image measures approximately 14 by 21 inches on a 15 1/4 by 24" page with a centerfold as issued. Condition: It is in Fair to Good condition. Basically as seen in the pics, with overall light tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges, blank on the reverse, printed on heavy paper with original hand coloring and a centerfold as issued. There are splits of about 3 inches at each end of the centerfold, a 3/4 inch edge tear, a hint of a damp stain along the left edge and one smudge entering the map, otherwise the map is very clean in general with superb hand color and would frame up nicely.
