The Nicholas Wanton Hunter house circa 17 48. Two o f the corners and one edge is do g eared as you can see in the photos and the paper is slighly wavy. No folds or tears. Rare 1938 Birds Eye View Boulder Dam Las Vegas Union Pacific Map Grand Canyon
Shown. Is a rare and early, original panoramic birds eye view and map of Boulder Dam before it became Hoover Dam along with Las Vegas, before it became LAS VEGAS. Covering much of Nevada, Arizona and Utah, the map features Lake Mead, the Valley of Fire, Bryce and Zion National Parks, Cedar Breaks National Monument and the Grand Canyon of the Colorado along with many other geographical points of interest. The map was published by Union Pacific Railroad in 1938 with artwork by Gerald A. Eddy(1890-1967) Map measures 21" by 34 1/2" and is in very good condition for its age and type. The colors are bright and vivd. There are a few condition issues. Due to rolling, handling and storing there is some general creasing and some bumping and slight chipping along the edges and corners with a 3/8" tear towards the upper right corner and ... morea 1 1/2" tear at the right center edge(see pics) There are no pinholes. Very rare map. View of Novara, by Georg Braun and Franz Hogenberg, 1618, from Civitates Orbis Terrarum, Italy 17th Century. Map was printed between 1618 and 1625. This bird's eye view from the east shows the city Novara, with Pavia(B) and Milan(A) shown in the background as indicated in the upper left corner of the map. On the back is a txt in French of the current history of the region at that time. Size of the map is 20 3/16 inches wide by 15 1/2 inches tall. Image area is 18 5/8 by 12 7/8 inches. Map is in good condition for its age. Margins have been trimed somewhat, some minor tears along the edges. The backside shows an old repair in one ... morecorner and along part of the crease. Who co-founded Encyclopædia Britannica with Colin Macfarquhar. Bell was a colourful Scot. His height was 4 foot 6; he had crooked legs and an enormous nose that he would sometimes augment with a paper-mache version whenever anyone stared at his natural nose. Bell began work as an engraver of crests. Names, etc. on dog collars. Despite his small stature, he deliberately rode the tallest horse available in Edinburgh, dismounting by a ladder to the cheers of onlookers. Bell produced almost all of the copperplate engravings for the 1st-4th editions of the Britannica: 160 for the 1st. 340 for the 2nd, 542 for the 3rd, and 531 for the 4th. For the 1st edition, Bell produced three full pages of anatomically accurate depictions of dissected female pelvises and of foetuses in wombs for the midwifery article; these illustrations shocked King George III who commanded that the pages be ripped from every copy. Vintage 1939 New York World's Fair Map Birds Eye View Color Perspective Queens
Here is a very nice aerial perspective- sometimes called a" Bird's Eye View" of the grounds of the 1939 New York World's Fair held in the borough of Queens. The map-view was published by C. S. Hammond& Co. New York, NY. It was presented by P. F. Collier and Son Corporation as part of the Harvard Classics. Junior Classics of the National Encyclopedia. The legend says that this view was approved by the New York World's Fair 1939. Inc. apparently the organization who presented the fair. It is 19" x 25" in size. It is printed on glossy magazine quality paper. The map is folded into 9 sections. As originally. There is no printing on the back. This is a hand drawn print. Not a photograph, but the quality of the illustrations are so precise and fine that at first it appears to be a photograph. The view is designed ... moresuch as you would see in an airplane approaching the fair from the south-southeast to the north-northwest toward Manhattan. At the bottom in the white space is a listing of the buildings in the fair. It is multi-colored and the coloration is very attractive. Giving you a sense that it is early morning or twilight. This print is in excellent condition. With just one small dog-ear on the top right corner and a small 1/4" tear on a fold on the lower right edge(see the Description section for full explanation) At the center of the drawing you can clearly see a depiction of the famous Trylon and Perisphere. The symbols of the 1939 NY World's Fair. The illustrator's name appears in the lower right corner as" Spofford" And the date"1939" The geography of the surrounding area of the fair, Flushing, Forest Hills, Manhattan, New Jersey, etc. are all very well labeled. This is a very nice specimen of a perspective from the Depression Era that should please map collectors as well as collectors of NY World's Fair memorabilia. L'Isle d'Ischia dans le Voisinage de Naple 49 cm x 37.5 cm copperplate engraving. 55 cm x 44.5 cm sheet size, contemporary hand colour, Amsterdam, circa 1710 We are pleased to offer this scarce example of the wonderfully decorative map/view of Ischia published by Pierre Mortier(1661-1711) for his Atlas Nouveau which reissued plates published earlier in Paris by Sanson and this case. Jaillot. It seems that virtually every late 16th and 17th century mapmaker published a version of this iconic image including Ortelius, Magini, Coronelli, Blaeu and Jansson and many more. But the model for all is a map issued in 1568 by the Italian master(1540-1620) for a treatise on the therapeutic properties of the thermal baths on Ischia by the physician and scholar(1538-1622) When Ortelius had the map engraved in 1590 for his groundbreaking atlas Theatrum ... moreOrbis Terrarum. The resultant plate was so impressive that all subsequent engravers and publishers followed the Ortelius model with near exact fidelity and here Jaillot was no exception including the southern orientation. As Ortelius wrote, Do not be bewildered, dear reader, that north is not at the top of our map as is usual but at the bottom; we have done so intentionally in order to better show the island's more attractive and important features. The"3D" bird's-eye view and the remarkable level of detail made this the standard map of Ischia for more than a century, and this Mortier imprint stands out as an exceptionally fine impression with excellent hand colour work and is in truly superb condition. A much sought-after imprint, this particularly fine example will make an elegant presentation if matted and framed. On the great off-shore rock we see the with the original site constructed in 474 B.C. and the connecting causeway built by Alfonso of Aragon in the 15th century.
