1862 Bache Coast Survey Shipwreck Map COOS BAY Oregon Original antique lithographed fold-out map of the entrance to Coos Bay. Printed more than 147 years ago. This map has wonderful detail. Including the location of a shipwreck in the South Slough, east of Guano Rock. Other named places and features include Cape Gregory, Pigeon Point, Fearless Rock, and Point Yoakum. The scans below show some of the detail, as well as the map opened up: This map was published by the U.S. Coast Survey. Under the direction of A.D. Bache, Superintendent. The image area measures 14-3/4" x 17-1/2" and the map is drawn on a scale of 1:20,000. The triangulation topography and hydrography are by James S. Lawson. This is a coastal survey map and it includes soundings and magnetic variation. It is dated 1862 in the title and was issued in Report of the Superintendent of the Coast Survey. Showing the Progress of the Survey during the Year 1862. Published in Washington, D.C. by the Government Printing Office in 1864. It is an original. Authentic U.S. Coast Survey document, not a reproduction or modern reprint. Both were territories. By the revision date of 1864, Oregon was a state, but Washington was not. This large chart is in a 25" x 28" brown wood frame with black trim. The viewable area of the chart is about 23" x 26" Closeup photos show some of the annotation details and portions of the beautiful artwork. The chart has a paper dust cover and a picture wire ready for hanging as seen. At the time of the original listing. This was one of two antique original US Coast Survey framed charts/ maps being list, one framed and the other unframed, purchased together from the same estate. Condition As found.
