This very attractive double page map sheet titled IDAHO and WYOMING is from the 1899 printing of The Century Atlas of the World. The map itself is dated 1897. The atlas was"Prepared under the superintendence of Benjamin E. Smith. A.M. and published by The Century Company, New York. The highly prized maps in this atlas were engraved by The Matthews-Northrup Company of Buffalo, NY. The maps from The Century Atlas are acknowledged to be among the finest of the late 19th century. Displaying plenty of sharp detail. Attractive colors, and good margins for framing. My photos really do not do this fine map justice! The page is about 12 1/2 by 17 inches in size. The reverse is blank. The map has a vertical center fold. As published. There is a fine inset map of Yellowstone National Park. Condition is very good with slight age toning at the edges ... moreand very minor damp staining at a couple of corners that intrudes less than 1/4 inch into the blank margin. Printed in the late-19th century, on quality paper which retains its inherent structural flexibility and soundness. A much less common map than one might think. Given that it originally appeared in the huge format and quite expensive shipping atlas which had a far smaller distribuition, not in one of the much more common smaller quarto-sized Family home atlases this company produced. Overprinted in red to show the railroad stops. In VG or better condition. Some light minor age wear which scarcely warrants any mention[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice ... moreimpression of a very detailed and uncommon oversize antique map. Sheet measures c. 14" W x 20 1/2" H. Printed area measures c. 12 1/4" W x 19" H. 15523] Any defects along the sheet edges and in the margins may be seen in the photos. note: All old sheets of printed paper possibly have short edge splits. Each sheet has existed for a very long time and has probably been handled repeatedly in the course of it's existence. It has a history unique to it as an object. Most of the time any edge splits are short. Minor, insignificant and have been closed- either long ago or more recently with small pieces of archival tape. Most often these splits are trivial and easy to overlook visually. Basically, they would not significantly affect the piece adversely. The item is offered as seen. This is a 1878 Railroad map of Idaho. We have copied the title page so you can see the date of publication. Map measures 14 X 20 inches. There is only one railroad. But also shown with thin double lines are the stage routes, wagon trails and dirt roads in existence. To own any of these Business Atlas maps in the 1870's is to own a extremely rare item. The last one we saw in auction ran over $1400.00. And worldcat.org shows only one of these in the major libraries. This map is in great condition and was printed on good stock paper. See first scan. Should look fantastic matted and framed. All maps we sell are rolled carefully in kraft paper and placed inside a very strong tube for shipment. This is a large 1892 Railroad Map of Idaho. It measures 25 X 17 inches. This map has listed the railroad companies and area in which they cover. See top lower scans. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It is in absolutely perfect condition. Nicest we've seen in over 25 years of selling maps. Map was taken from the Cram's Railway Atlas which is near impossible to find and very expensive when found. All maps are sent carefully rolled in a secure pvc shipping tube by priority mail. We take special care in shipping these maps as there are no replacements. Your map will be rolled in kraft paper. Then taped to apply enough pressure to keep map from shifting in the tube and possibly dulling the edges. We also insure each map for it's full value. According to worldcat.org only one other edition of this atlas is still around and it is in the Cornell University Library. This is an 1892 Railroad map of Idaho. It is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. Long considered the most beautiful of all 19th Century Railroad maps; this is the best of the best. You are looking at a map from Walker’s International Atlas. The map covers the whole of Idaho as it was in 1892. The maps themselves were the product of George Cram. A well know map publisher at the turn of the century. Walker took the base Cram’s maps and added hand colored lithography, giving a light Easter egg pastel richness that is eye stopping in expression and exact detail. We have acquired another copy from 1896. Worldcat.org does not show any 1892 editions. This means that the historical societies. This is a large 1888 Railroad Map of Idaho. It measures 14 X 21 inches. Map was taken from the Rand McNally New Business Atlas which is very rare and highly sought after. This map is genuine. Not a copy or reprint. It may have a few minor handling flaws as to be expected in a map this age and large. Please see scan. The Rand McNally Business Atlas first printed in 1876. Was still in transition in 1881. Rand McNally was experimenting with different methods so that shipping clerks would find the railroads on the maps with speed and exactness. It is basically as seen in the pics, with overall tonal aging and slight darkening around the edges. There are a few minor smudges around the margin, otherwise the map image is very clean in general with bright color and a nice antique quality that would frame up well. The pics are of the actual map and very accurate of condition and color in general, however the actual map looks much better.
