By walling and militarily planning the defenses. The settlement could thus withstand the assault of the local savages(indians) This plan resulted from the near collapse of South Carolina due to the then recent Yamasee War losses(see wikipedia for an overview of this seminal series of events and their effects) Azilia is identified and located in large letters on the map. This imaginary proposed settlement of Azilia appears on only a handful of printed Carolina maps. All of which are scarce or only found in manuscript form. Furthermore, this never-to-be-realized early American settlement only appears on the earliest states of this Moll map(it is changed to"Georgia" on later states) At bottom right. This is a page of a book and I assume it falls under the guidelines of media mail. This map is an ORIGINAL ANTIQUE PAGE from Cram's 1894 Universal Atlas- Geographical. Astronomical and Historical. Cram's was founded in 1969. And became famous for its accurate maps. Each county is labeled and colored. 13" x 9.5" A little piece out of the bottom lower corner. Antique maps of Florida and Georgia from an atlas published in the late 19th Century. These US state maps are printed back to back. So only one can be displayed at a time. Condition: Good. Lots of age toning around the margins. Which just adds to the appeal of the old map. The paper is fairly fragile, so map page will need to be protected from less than careful handling. Note: the page was just a bit too big for the scanner, so part of the margin area is not shown. The right margin of the Georgia map is the same size as the left. The Florida map was printed a bit crooked on the paper(as was common in the 19th century) but this will not show when it is framed. 1836 VINTAGE FLORIDA SEMINOLE INDIAN WAR ANTIQUE MAP - DADE'S MASSACRE
This is a replica copy of a map detailing the events of Dade's Massacre near Bushnell. Florida, which helped launch the 2nd Seminole Indian War. This folded map is March 20th, 1836, and shows landmarks as well as military forts situated between Tampa Bay and Palatka. On December 28, 1835, 108 soldiers under the command of Major Francis L. Dade were attacked by Seminole Indian warriers, led by chiefs Alligator, Micanopy and Jumper. Only one of the soldiers lived to tell the tale. This map traces the route of Dade's troups from their departure at Fort Brooke heading northeasterly towards Fort King. This map is an interesting piece of Florida's history. The map has shows detail of some of the larger rivers and lakes. Original Primitive Antique 1873 Gray's Atlas Map Florida W/ Alabama Other Side I brought home a truck load of items from the auction last week. It was a farm estate. And I found some fabulous primitive antiques, as well as boxes and boxes of antique and vintage hardware that I will be listing for a long long time- someone clearly was a woodworker or dabbled in furniture creation or restoration. There’s something for everyone! This beauty did not come from the auction. But from a local small antique sale that I went to recently. The dealer had several(what once were) old book page maps, and I chose my favorite, and for where many of my customers live. This is an old map, and it is unframed, so you will need to frame it. What a wonderful display piece it will make for you, though! In most of the photos, I'm showing you the map how I ... morepurchased it- inside of a sleeve and on top of cardboard. We will leave it this way for shipping(of course we will pack, though- I didn't want you to think that I'd fold or roll it, I will not) This map is from the 1873 publication of Gray's Atlas. It has a map of Florida(with a plan for the Keys) on one side, and a map of Alabama on the other. I removed it very carefully from the sleeve to take photos of Alabama. The map is a nice size for framing- it measures 17" by 15, and it is in excellent overall condition. You can see that the paper has browned lightly- more so on the edges than anywhere. There's one small(1/8" carmel colored stain/foxing mark inside the Keys section that you can see in the photos- it's minor. There's also a light line that looks like a pencil line on the bottom rim- see photo 7- I did not try to remove it in any way. The long edges show some small nibbles/chips all over- especially on the side that would have been in the spine(photos 3, 4, 5) with less on the other side.
