Unfinished railroad lines as listed in the key along with canals. In near VG or better condition. Light minor age wear and small stitch holes in the bottom margin but the image is overall very presentable and attractive[note: we grade very conservatively and always seek to disclose any noteworthy flaws] The printed area remains visually pleasing. A nice impression of an interesting antique map which will look nice when displayed. Sheet measures c. 9" H x 11" W. Illustrating the campaign of the Army of West Mississippi during 1865, printed more than 120 years ago. The coverage area extends from Sparta to the Gulf of Mexico. Between Mobile and Choctawhatchee Bay. The map shows Union and Confederate positions and details the movements of troops in XIII Corps and XVI Corps, under the command of Major General Edward Richard Sprigg Canby during the last two months of the war. The two major battles within the timeframe and geographic purview of this map were the Battle of Spanish Fort and the Battle of Fort Blakely. Important and rare land grant map paving the way for commerce from Mobile Bay to Cairo. Illinois via the new Mobile& Ohio River Railroad. This map was made in 1852, after funds had been appropriated and the basic route was known and is one of the earliest and most important maps of it's kind. It is a nice example, being wholly untrimmed and folded as issued and in overall vg condition with some darkening in the fold areas as is always encountered it seems with this map.
