There are two gates shown. One leaning on top of the other. Both are in excellent condition for the one price. The top of the finial of one is slightly bent, but nothing serious. They were originally part of the iron fence on my property. House was built in 1896, but it is not known when the fence went up. I would guess close to that time or just a few years later. A plate on another gate of the same type says The Ludlow Saylor Wire Co. St. Louis, MO. These are part of the same original fence/entry system. They measure 57 1/2 inches wide; 43 inches to the top of the scroll work. And 51 inches to the top of the finial. These are really lovely gates with wonderful original US craftsmanship. Put together. A truly unique sundial; or'sphere armillaire' heavily built of solid cast bronze for use outdoors. A used. Vintage, working sundial that's been mounted before, it has a great atmospheric aged look you just can't fake. Not a modern reproduction and not'garden art' this sundial was in my family's garden throughout my lifetime, and now it can be in yours. Both the scales- the compass on the base. And the hours on the dial- are quite legible. The are no significant warps, bends or breaks in the metal. The latitude adjustment is functional and can easily be changed with a pair of Crescent wrenches. I was unable to identify the maker; no obvious marks are apparent anywhere. Its a medium-sized example. It won't get lost in a small yard. But it can be landscaped into a large area as well. Antique Wrought Iron Garden Gate~Porcelain Knob~Arched Top~Very Unique~Heavy
Up for your consideration today is an antique cast iron garden gate with arched top. I took the pic with the gate laying on it's side because it was too heavy for me to stand up. It still has the porcelain knob and what looks to be a locking mechanism at one time. It is rusty and dilapidated in spots but still functional. It looks like someone tried to save it by attaching it to cast iron pipes on either side of the gate. Still functioning gate but in order to use it this way. You will have to bury the bottom ends of the poles or either attach to fence posts. Great style with arched top. Measures 85" from arch to bottom of gate- 36" wide. The poles measure 10'2" overall from top to bottom. I was told by the previous owner this was the gate used for entering the garden going to the slave quarters so I'm assuming ... morethis is true and the gate probably dates to around the 1850's or sooner. We bought it years ago off a farm and my plan was to make an herb cart and put my pots inside. But keep it out of the weather under the overhang on our workshop. But that has never happened. The family had it stored in the barn for many decades and it had once been used to push grain along and fill feeders in stalls. The wheels are designed so that it can easily be pulled or pushed along from either direction so that it did not have to turn around at the end of the narrow row along the stalls. It has a great industrial look and could be adapted for any number of purposes. It has never been exposed to weather so the wood is in great shape. The iron portions do show rust as the humidity in barns is ... morecertainly not controlled. Could be cleaned up considerably and a coating of liquid black shoe wax does wonders. Does anyone remember this Company? Has any Family member ever work here? Here is a Peter's Pump Company Pump located in Kewanee Ill. I did some research on this Pump and found; a Gentleman back in 1888 named Peter Wistrand began the mfg. of Hand Pumps using the name Peter's Pump Co. In 1890 he sold an interest to another Gentleman named Guenther then he ended up selling all of his interest in 1904. The plant employed about 50 men. And the company did not disclose it's business figures. I also found another piece of info about this Co. Apparently their slogan said" No broken parts, says Peter's Pump Co. Kewanee Illnois. Interesting info. Don't know the actual age of this pump could not find that info? My sister said that she found it in an Old Barn 40 years ago so that is some info to go on. She also has kept this ... morepiece in her home as a decoration. This is a true piece of brass, which I tested it by putting a magnet on the brass and it Did Not stick, which is how one can tell if something is brass with no other metals. This pump is made out of real Brass and some sort of maybe cast metal. The handle pump works great as well as heavy DUTY, she said that the faucet worked as well, although I could not get the spicket to turn. Has threads on the bottom side where it can be hooked to a threaded well casing and a threaded faucet to attach a hose. The pump has 4 holes at the bottom to bolt it down. It also has the numbers stamped E17. The handle has the Company name, state and an E21. The height is approx. 20.5 inches tall, approx. 12.0 inches wide, the OD of the threaded hole attachment is approx. 2 inches and the ID is approx. 1 inch and 1/4.
