VERY OLD FIGURE OF A BOY FOUND IN WHAT WAS ONCE THE GARDEN OF A VICTORIAN HOUSE
Found a few days ago in what was once the grounds of a victorian house. This was found in the area that would have been the garden while i was digging up an old copper watering can, see other listings.The figure looks to be an old garden ornnament and it looks like its a little french boy. The figure had been painted several times over,and this i guess protected it from major damage some light chips and the wording on base lavaron or lavroon cant quite make it out without removing paint which i dont want to do. Listing tonight is a nice vintage round hanging bird cage from an estate sale. The cage is about 16 inch diameter and is metal with a plastic bottom and cleaning tray. It has some bird toys inside. The stand is the best part with solid brass base cover and sleeve. And a question mark shaped extension arm. The stand base screws on to a steel frame. The stand is near perfect but the bottom of the cage was glued to reassemble and is not perfect. It is functional as a bird cage but would be a great display piece or a hanging planter stand. It will be broken down and have to be shipped by greyhound bus or local pick up. It is to big to ship post office. If by greyhound you would have to pick up on your end. OMG HUGE 9 foot cast iron white gate topper architectural salvage rusty patina!
Amazing old gate! Hi, I am selling the most amazing decorative cast iron gate topper! At least I think that's what is it. Not too sure: The patina is to die for. Just enough rust and paint loss to be perfect! It has 3 1 5/8" legs at the bottom. I think is where it set on top of the gate. It has a small easel back behind. Can prop at an angle. It is gigantic measuring 9' 1" wide. 25" tall to the top of the finial, not including the legs at the bottom and is approximately 4" deep. I am guessing it to be 80-90 lbs. I believe it is cast iron. Unknown age. Looks quite old to me. It has incredible detail. So intricate, it is stunning! I think this would make an amazing plant border. But there are so many things you could do! How about above your bed or fireplace? Check the pics carefully. You'll see on the left side ... moreat the bottom the base sticks out a bit further than the scrolly detail above. But on the right side, the scrolly part sticks out further than the base. I think this is where 2 of these would have met. This must have been one whopper of a gate! Check out the 2nd to last pic. I said the ball looks a bit smashed. Upon further inspection, I think it was cut, probably when removing from the gate, minor and barely noticeable, just want you to know: You'll not see another like this. Old Vintage International Harvester Corn Planter Check Row Wire Stake Yard Art Who-hoo- went to my first auction of the summer- it was a farm estate auction literally right down the street from me. The former owners had lived there since he had gotten out of the military after enlisting during WWII. And her family had been on the property for generations before that. It’s all farm stuff- household, barn, outbuildings, property- many items from the 1800s and up. Lot of old iron, barn digs, primitives and pretties- I’m so excited to show them to you! Enjoy! You may be a farm item collector. But I see all of these old barn pieces in a different light- from funcky iron art yard art, so industrial wall art- whatever way you go- it's a piece of Americana history! What I have is an old cast iron check row wire stake- used in check row planting ... moreof corn. Check row planting was a method of planting where each hill of 2, 3 or 4 seeds was exactly the same distance from the adjoining hills. At the end of the day, a planted field had the appearance of a checkerboard, with a hill of cornstalks at the exact intersection of each line. It helped make it much easier to keep the fields clear of weeds, but with the onset of chemical weed products, this type of planting fell along the wayside. The check wire that this stake used to hold would have buttons on it that were placed for the desired row spacing. Now, I don't know exactly how this stake worked to hold the wire, but the construction seems pretty simple and pretty self explanatory to me. Measuring 39 1/2" tall, it is 6 1/4" widest and weighs 2 3/4 lbs. It's in excellent solid and sturdy condition- I noticed that the center pole bends slightly off straight at one spot toward the bototm- it's minor. I'm showing in photo 12 that it has an International Harvester mark in the center- it is also painted barn red, and doesn't appear to have ever been any other color. This piece measures: 21" tall 12" deep 8 1/2" bottom diameter. It has a weight of 35 pounds. I bought this piece years ago at an estate sale in Michigan( purchased in the late 1990's) The sale was a living estate sale and the owner was in her late 80's. I believe the piece is from the 1940s to 1950s. The fountain top shows a cherub style boy ridingon a duck. I do not know how it hooks up to a fountain. But I believe water comes out the ducks mouth. Beautiful 3 1/2 Cast Iron Antique Bell Manufactured by the C. S. Bell & Co.
I've owned several old bells of different sizes but have never seen a C.O Bell in the 3 1/2 size. The only markings are on the yoke which shows the embossed No. 3-1/2 and the cradles are both marked No. 4. Not much information can be found on this bell. The bell is unmarked and measures just shy of 16 inches across the botton and 14-1/2 inches from the bottom to the top of the yoke. The rotation wheel was found with the bell but not sure it is original to it. There is no other rope lever with the bell. Since the weight of these bells is always a negative to the purchase because of the shipping costs. In great shape for its age- not rusted out- light surface rust. Could still be used to haul mulch. Or most any other yard work. Would also make a cute planter again.
