Nice wood engraved map of Hawaii circa 1899-1900. There is a cut out with it that claims this map by Coperthwait in 1876. However. My knowledge of history tells me that is not possible since the map says it was engraved for Leslie's history of the Spanish American War. Since that war didn't happen until 1898, that cut out is not true. The book this was engraved for was published in 1899. This map is carded flat, and is in excellent condition showing a few tiny edge tears which can be seen in the photos. The map is 14.5 inches by 10.5 inches. Please ask all questions prior to bidding

A visually appealing antique wood-engraved newspaper map. It is an original 150+ year old pictorial sheet extracted from a scarce 19th century popular weekly illustrated periodical. Offered for the historical interest of the topic as well as the modern appeal of the printed image. The visual presentation is unique to the era and this type of printed newsprint image using methods and machinery now long vanished and extinct. Looks like nothing being produced today. In Good+[or better] condition: displays uniform age toning as typical for this age image. There may be light scattered ... morespotting.
