This area has changed a bit, as Louisiana Avenue now runs from Pennsylvania Avenue halfway between 2nd and 1st Streets and runs across North Capital Street at Indiana Avenue. Parts of Area 633 on this map are part of that road and the bottom portion is now the Robert E. Taft Memorial and Carillon. Part of Indiana Avenue now runs underground into the 3rd Street Tunnel at C Street It runs under the U.S. Employment and Training Administration Building, which now takes up all of Areas 573 and 574. The Passenger Station for the B&O Railroad is now apart of Union Station and this area now houses the Japanese American Memorial. This map measures approximately 28 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches. Hopkins, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Maps this early and showing this much detail of Washington D.C. are VERY SCARCE. The map has fantastic coloring to it. Lots of color coding to represent various attributes(white/stone building. Pink/brick building, yellow/frame building, if it looks like an envelope/a stable or shed, and black& white dotted/green house etc. Map in generally good condition(not perfect but pretty nice condition) Some browning and small chips or creases at edges. Map is blank on the reverse side. There is a crease up the middle where it was originally bound. The map has some small tears and chips around the edges.

At the turn of the century Molokai was has large cattle ranges and considerable grazing. On the northern side of the island there is a six square mile leper colony. The colony, home to about 100 people, was established in 1866 and was considered one of the most advanced institutions of its kind in existence. The Crown Lands, that is those belonging to Kamehameha III, are depicted and drawn according to the divisions of 1848. Today Molokai, due to its lack of sandy beaches, is considered the best preserved of its major islands. The governor of Hawaii at the time this chart was made was George R. Carter. Just one year after the discovery of gold in the Klondike and at the height of the Klondike Gold Rush. Issued by the General Land office under Binger Hermann, this map covers all of Alaska including the Aleutian Islands. It extends well into the Yukon District and south as far as Seattle. Parts of adjacent Siberia are also included. Gold regions are identified and highlighted in yellow- symbolizing gold. The map also identifies the monthly mail routes, topography, Isothermal Lines, other mineral deposits, types of vegetation, and routes to and from the interior. Gold was discovered near the mouth of the Klondike River in August of 1816 by a party ... moreof Tagish American Indians. The original Yukon gold discovery was in the Bonanza(Rabbit) Creek area, but it quickly became apparent that the gold regions were far vaster. Word traveled quickly and by July a stampede of prospectors from throughout the United States and Canada were headed to the Klondike. This was compounded by the fact that a series of bank failures in 1897 left the American economy in disarray and many of work. Over 40,000 prospectors and their families moved to Alaska. The Klondike Gold Rush drew such notables as future U.S. President William H. Taft, adventurer Frederick Russell Burnham, and author W. W. White. This map, which folds into a pocket format, was without a doubt the finest general map of Alaska available at the time and certainly accompanied many hopeful prospectors as they made their way north in search of mineral wealth. A large inset in the upper right corner better illustrates the Forty Mile Creek gold region and its many rich deposits. Inland routes are noted with care with distances appearing in a table situate din the lower right quadrant.
