Hi- These are Genuine paper pages from Mallet's"Description De L'Universe. dating from 1683. That's 330 years old! There is nothing to suggest otherwise, although there could be later editions- Paper consistent with this time frame though. There are 6 pages here. The pages seen in the photos either have a Map or Engraved Image; reverse side of pages mostly text. IMAGES INCLUDED: 1. Eastern Hemisphere 2. Black Sea Region 3. Sofala- Mozambique* Interesting detail of a Fort& surrounds* 4. Brittany- Bretagne" Great Map! 5. Persian Palace- nice detail! 6. Thuilleries. Paris. I think that these are"Investment Grade" pieces. This is a pair of Original Engraved maps of Jerusalem produced for"The New Peoples Cyclopedia of Universal Knowledge" Phillips and Hunt. New York, 1887. They are in great condition, the colors are good, no foxing. There are a few minors tears along the top edge, less than 1/8 inch. Each map measures 7 by 103/4 inches I am selling them as the pair and will look great framed. this is a great find.

I am offering a pair of 1887 Antique Celestial Hemishere Maps. They were engraved by Fisk and Co. New York. Published by Phillips and Hunt,New York 1887"The People's Cyclopedia of Universal Knowledge" They are in excellant condition. No foxing, no tears, minimum toning. The are folded in the middle still attached to the tab that secured them to the book. I am starting them at a great price for the pair and for the condition. There is a brown stain looks like a water or fluid of some sort at top of inside seam starts at map 17 and carries through to map 20 it does not affect the maps. The inside seam on some of maps are starting to separate. The book is a hard cover written in German it is A hand atlas that is a supplement to the Justus Perthes Atlas. It was edited and designed by Hermann Habenicht. It has 24 colored copper engraved maps and is 127 pages containing Nautical Notes& Tables from Erwin Knipping. I see the leather connecting the front board to the binding has a split. not loose really, just showing more wear than the other books. and with that said. there is no reserve on these(3) classic american printed books. Or the Geography associated with all Mathematical, Philological, Physical, Moral, Political, Historial, Theological, Mystical Places and Things, annotated throughout, illustrated as well with the newest Cartography with 15 Accurate and Finely Engraved Maps" by the scholar and theologian Johann Jacob Schmidt(1691-1754) While Schmidt's massive text goes into minute detail. It does not fall into ... morethe notably tedious genre of German enlightenment literature knows as Lehrgedicht or"Instructional Epic" and is in fact quite a scholarly tour de force. Perhaps the greatest fascination for the modern reader, however, will be the fifteen fold-out maps- an impressive synthesis of multiple cartographic sources that reveals an impressive depth of cartographic research and scholarship by Schmidt in compiling the maps. For example, on his map of Egypt Schmidt cites as principal sources maps from travel accounts in Egypt by the merchant(1664-1737) and a map by the Jesuit Claude Sicard(1677-1726) who with his colleague Fr. Pietro Pincia are believed to have been the first Europeans to visit Upper Egypt. Including the Valley of the Kings and Aswan in 1721. After a comprehensive discussion of sources(more of which to follow) Schmidt then announces in his preface that the plates for his maps"have been neatly and accurately engraved by the Homann Heirs, the best copperplate and map engraver in Germany" for whatever reason it does not appear that the Homann contribution of engraving the plates for Schmidt's maps has been previously recorded. Up for sale is a great piece containing three 18th century maps of Grenada all framed together. One of the maps is colored. Frame measures approximately 15 x 28 inches. The three maps are roughly the same size ans show the whole island. each visible map measures approximately 8 3/4 inch by 7 1/4 inch. Maps all appear in nice condition with no visible issues save some light spotting. Browning and wear. Maps have not been examined outside the frame. Maps are as followed: Map 1: Map at left of frame entitled"Carte De L Isle De La Grenade. Pour servir a l'Historie Generale des Voyages Par M.B. Ing de la M 1758" Map is from the well known Histoire des Voyages, is page 446 from this volume and was published in 1758. Text is French. Map 2: Map at center is color.
