The Maps themselves are well preserved with the hand coloring bright- a bit light but“as issued” There is some light edge wear to the interior leaves but no damage or repairs and no edge wear affecting the Map images. Contents are holding firmly though damp-stained throughout toward upper edges, most severe to the first twenty-five maps plus prelims, the second half(which includes Greece, World, Middle East/India, and the Americas) less severely affected, most maps are stained on mostly outer edge of map. The map paper is not brittle and there are no tears, cuts, chipping or markings on maps other than stains. Some general light dust-soiling and finger-marking. Tunison World Atlas~Hand colored Maps of the World~1880s?
Up for bid is a very old. Very tattered, brittle, Tunison's World Atlas. From an Estate, the front and back covers are missing along with the first and last 10 pages, and pages 27-30. It is darkened from age, and after doing some research, I believe this is from the late 1800s-early1900s by H C Tunison, Jacksonville IL. 14 x 11.5 inches, originally had 209 pages. The Atlas features hand-colored maps of the world including maps of the US States and territories, chiefly hand-colored with several appearing in printed color. Can't find a date in the atlas, but there is a page of the Presidents that ends with Benjamin Harrison, elected in 1888. Also, a page showing the official seals of the US States has only 38. For as bad as the condition is, some of the inner pages are still good, and I have seen similar ones listed individually for ... moresale. A wealth of information about railroads, populations, engravings, etc. Even in its poor condition, a valuable piece of History.

Suffolk County and Adjacent Towns* 1830- This is a very scarce and desirable piece of antique geographical memorabilia from Boston. Massachusetts, almost 2 centuries old, involving two very rare early hand-colored maps of the city(both of which are hard-to-find in the uncolored state, but the original hand-colored maps are even rarer) These two maps are included in a(first edition) 1830 book titled"A Geography of Boston. County of Suffolk and ... morethe Adjacent Towns(with Historical Notes) It was written by C. H. Snow. MD, and published in Boston by Carter and Hendee in 1830. This book. With its many engravings and wonderful historic information, is great in itself, but the most outstanding feature, of course, is that it is accompanied by two wonderful hand-colored foldout maps. The first of these is a Bowen map showing the"Plan of Boston" with the various wards distinguished by different pastel shades and the center Common left uncolored. This 7-1/2 by 5-1/2 inch map extends to include part of South Boston and there is fine detailing of the major streets in these areas and along the wharves. It is the second map(also by Bowen) which is extremely rare. More often than not missing or heavily damaged on those few occasions when this book is offered for sale by antique book and map dealers. Beautiful Hand Colored 1887 Catholic Atlas This lovely book is a collectible you would be proud to have in your library. It is"Atlas Pour Servir a L'Enseignement et a L'etude de L'historie Universelle de L'Eglise Catholique" by A. H. Dufour. My 8th grade French is a bit rusty. But this appears to be a wonderful atlas concerning the history of the Catholic Church. It is written in French, and contains 24 double page maps that are hand colored. Most maps are large, a few pages contain smaller maps. Each page measures over 11.5" by 17" The date is 1887. The maps in this Atlas are quite fascinating. Not only do they show different countries and continents. They also show history. One map depicts how Europe looked in 771, one shows the paths of the crusades, another shows the route of Kublai Khan. There's ... morethe Babylonian empire and empire of Cyrus, and some that I don't understand(distribution of children? The maps towards the end of the book at straight forward maps of Africa and the Americas. This book is in good condition for its age. The pages are a yellowed parchment color. They came out more white on my camera for some reason. The paper is not white. The maps are all complete with no water damage or rips, but there are some age spots and places where the hand coloring of the borders and rivers has seeped through to the back of the page a little. The spine is loose and split along the top of the front cover. The corners of the covers are worn. The first few pages have some chips out of the paper at the top, but it doesn't come anywhere near the map outline. These unique maps are suitable for framing. This book is sold in aged, as-is condition! I have described this to the best of my ability but please feel free to ask questions, I am not an expert on books. On the back of these maps is another larger map of similar quality illustrating part of Cinnaminson township, from which Riverton and Palmyra were created in the 19th Century. The maps were rescued from the Atlas of Philadelphia and Environs, published in 1877 by G.M. Hopkins, and which was in unsalvageable condition. The last two photos validate the origin of the map and the publishing date. These maps are beautiful and quite detailed. The partial Cinnaminson Township map is the largest with a paper size of 17-1/2" x 26-1/2" And an image size of 16-1/2" x 24-3/4" ... moreThe Riverton and Palmyra maps share a page size of 13-1/4" x 17-3/8" While Riverton's image size is 9-5/8"x 10" and Palmyra's image size is 12-3/4" x 16-3/4" The property owners' names. Land acreages, railroads are clearly shown on these maps. The maps have an inscription at the bottom. Entered according to Act of Congress in year 1877 by G.M. Hopkins in the Office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington" The map image conditions are excellent. With only a few small tears in the white margin, some rough edges at the perimeter of the pages, and some yellowing and staining of the paper with age. The colors are beautiful and the line work is great(see photos) There are no holes within the images, but the Woodbury map does have a tiny nick in the top edge of the image(see photo 6) To clarify. The Riverton/Palmyra map and the Woodbury map are printed on different pieces of paper, but both of these maps share on their back the larger partial Cinnaminson Township map. This Cinnaminson map also shows Riverton and Palmyra boroughs within the township boundary, which was later changed by the NJ legislature. This map will be careful

These are two early 1870 maps of Leicester. Ma. Also included, is a full page of"Subscribers Business References. The maps are very detailed. Each measure 15.5 X 12.5 inches. We have shown the scans of the maps and a close ups to get a great idea of the beauty and workmanship that went into the detailed engraving along with the hand coloring(wash) not found on modern maps. All customers will get a standard sized paper printout of the Index page. Which will serve as proof for insurance purposes of the holding.
