Framed title page & two lithograph maps of Switzerland 1817 Rare Old Vintage
Here we have a gem from my collection. It is a framed title page of Picturesque tour through France, Switzerland and the banks of the Rhine printed in London in 1817. The two maps from this book are along beside it. One of Geneve to Heydelberg and the other showing the journey from Moulines to Marselle and on to Geneva. From the era of the grand European tour this piece is very evocative of that by-gone age. The story behind why these are framed up and not in their original book is unusual. I came upon the book literally falling to pieces and in a very bad way with pages disolving in my hand. The only thing I could save was the title page and the two lithographs which were printed on very fine rag paper. At the time I worked in a framers and I framed these in Ph neutral stock and matte and a very expensive walnut style frame. It is a heavy ... morepiece and I have preserved this book in this way as a tribute to old books everywhere. It measures as follows. The maps 130 X 205. The title page 120 X 180 and the whold piece 550 X 360. The condition on the rear and the hanger are perfect. It was framed in the mid 1980's. Pageant of the Pacific" by the well-known Mexican painter, illustrator, filmmaker. And anthropologist, Miguel Covarrubias(1904-1957) These lithographs are contained in their original portfolio silk-screened board folding portfolio case, with a small printed booklet, as published in 1940. They are images of the large murals that Covarrubias was commisioned to paint for the Pacific House at the 1939- 1940 Golden Gate International ... moreExposition(GGIE-World Fair) on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. Each lithograph is signed by the artist in the plate and publishing notations are printed at the bottom of each. The heavy board portfolio has a silk-screened graphic design of Tapa cloth and“COVARRUBIAS” in blue. On the front. The pints are loose. As issued, over a wooden roller(see photos) The titles of the prints are: 1. Peoples of the Pacific; 2. The Flora and Fauna of the Pacific; 3. Art Forms of the Pacific Area; 4. Economy of the Pacific; 5. Native Dwellings of the Pacific Area; and 6. Native Means of Transportation in the Pacific Area. The maps were printed by H.S. Crocker and Schwabacher-Frey. Published by Pacific House, San Francisco, and copyrighted in 1939 by the San Francisco Bay Exposition Company. It is rare to find this set complete with all six lithographs. The booklet, and portfolio case together as the prints were often separated for framing and display. The small booklet alone is very rare and was often lost. Covarrubias is a very famous Mexican artist and his biography can easily be found on the internet. A number of books have been written about him and his work

Vintage 1960s Shell Gasoline Road Street Lithograph Maps Ontario & Toronto
This auction is offering two(2) maps issued by Shell. The fuels company. One is a road map of Ontario, copyright date of 1961, and the other is a street map of Toronto and Vicinity. The Toronto map does not have a stated copyright date but the map reads"POPULATION OF TORONTO 667,706" Both maps were made by The H.M. Gousha Company and Lithographed in Canada. The Ontario map has a service centre stamp on the front, from Saugeen Motors in Durham, Ontario. Both are a bit dirty on covers(exposed areas when folded) but the interiors are nice and clean. We could find no rips or tears although a couple of the fold lines are thinning and the edges are slightly worn. For their ages, we think these are in nice condition. These historical pieces would be welcome in various collections. 3 vintage 4 '.x 3 '.WS Konecky lithograph wall maps 1950s Ex. cond.
I have 3 vintage lithograph wall maps from the 1950s. Each is 4 ft.x 3 ft. One Solar System and Outer Space Map, one Universal map of the world, and one 50-state map of the U.S.A. I didn't unfold these maps to take photos because they are so big, unfolding them causes unnecessary damage. All three maps are in very good condition Unused as far as I know. The only thing that keeps this from being mint maps is one of them has small stain that I show in one of the photos.
