Veneers became popular in the late 17th and early 18th centuries as an economical way to adorn furniture with rare and expensive woods. Thin layers of individual wood patterns are cut and glued to a less expensive core. The first veneers were hand cut and fairly thick. Up to 1/8 inch. Later, skilled woodworkers learned to cut paper-thin veneers in a variety of ways to achieve artistic patterns with which to decorate furniture surfaces. Flame veneers are especially beautiful when the figure is repeated for a rich effect. Don't know much about this. It appears to be old and authentic, but don't know what. I think it has probably gone through some sort of restoration, the glass has been replaced with plastic and the wood does not look refinished. ANTIQUE CHIPPENDALE STYLE MAHOGANY BREAK FRONT SECRETARY CHINA CABINET
Beautifully detailed antique Chippendale style cabinet likely made in the first half of the century. The top drawer when open lays flat and then slides out were the secretary is. On that left side the hinge needs to be repaired and the right side needs a screw. The remaining drawers are in excellent condition. The cabinet does need some refinishing if you like, mostly at the very bottom nearest to the floor. Their is also a nick shown in the pic on the left corner, an on the right side a small piece has been glued back. The wood is in very good condition. I've had this cabinet in my dining room for years as is. Thanks for looking
